HOULTON – Fourteen residents have submitted nomination papers to run for municipal offices on Election Day, Tuesday, Nov. 5.
Four people are running for three three-year terms on the Town Council. They are Gerald Adams, a local businessman, Philip Bernaiche, John Fitzpatrick, a retired businessman, and Michael Blanchard, a local businessman.
They are vying for seats vacated by Halston Britton, Paul Cleary and Dorothy Donahue.
The town’s charter prohibits Britton and Donahue from holding a third, consecutive three-year term.
Richard Goodwin, a local businessman, is the only candidate for a one-year slot on the council. That post is held by Joseph Skehan, who was appointed to fill the unexpired term of Charles Daly III. Skehan has chosen not to run.
Three people seeking election to three three-year terms on the SAD 29 board. Incumbents Mark Bossie and David Green are being joined in that race by Elizabeth Anderson.
There are two candidates seeking election to a one-year seat on the school board. Incumbent Cynthia Hillman-Forbush is being challenged by former board member Randy McGary.
Incumbents Galen Hogan and James F. McPartland are unchallenged for their three-year seats on the Houlton Water Co. board.
Dana Lapointe and Matthew Nightingale are each seeking election to one of three three-year terms on the town’s board of budget review.
The third three-year post and a one-year term will be filled by write-in candidates, according to Town Clerk Cathy O’Leary.
