Petrie powers Old Town by Hampden 3-1

OLD TOWN – Matt Petrie scored a goal and assisted on another to lift the Old Town Indians to a 3-1 schoolboy soccer victory over the Hampden Academy Broncos Friday.

Petrie scored an unassisted goal from midfield for a 1-0 lead and followed with an assist on a Chad Dupuis score. John Garrity’s goal on a penalty kick provided an insurance goal for the Indians. Tyler Tracewski stopped 14 of the 15 shots he faced while in goal for 3-0 Old Town.

Bud Bridges scored on a pass from Nattapong Kongsuriya for the 1-2 Broncos. Ken Mayo had 12 saves.

JV: Hampden 5-3

Greenville 8, Vinalhaven 2

At Greenville, Jonah Lizotte scored two goals and six other teammates tallied a goal apiece as the Greenville Lakers rolled to an 8-2 schoolboy soccer victory over Vinalhaven Friday.

Richard Folsom and Nathan Woodbury notched a goal and an assist apiece for 2-1 Greenville while Rory Owens, Chris Waldron, Kevin Lebel and Kevin Bradford scored a goal each. Gregory Aucoin made seven saves on nine shots.

Josh Doughty and Josh Miller scored the goals for 0-3 Vinalhaven. Miller and Chris Sawyer combined to make seven saves on 24 shots.

MCI 2, Winslow 1

At Pittsfield, Mark Trombley’s breakaway goal with 10 minutes remaining broke a 1-1 tie and gave the Huskies the victory.

Gary Palje assisted on the game-winning goal. Andrew Coffin started the scoring for Maine Central Institute of Pittsfield on a corner kick early in the first half. Shawn Bradford had 12 saves for 2-1 MCI.

Winslow’s Tristan Carrier scored the only goal of the game for the Raiders on a direct kick. Erik Pendleton faced four shots for 2-1 Winslow.

PCHS 1, Penquis 1 (2OT)

At Guilford, the Pirates and Patriots fought to a tie as each team’s goalie allowed only one goal.

Josh Luellen stopped nine shots for Piscataquis Community High School of Guilford and Kevin Nason stopped 15 shots for Penquis Valley High School of Milo.

Jon Prescott scored the lone goal of the game for PCHS early in the first half on a pass from Matt Free. Penquis’ Justin Allen tied the game up with 4:33 remaining in the first half on an unassisted score following a scramble in front of the net.

JV: PCHS 2-0

Nokomis 3, Foxcroft 0

At Newport, Matt Thornton assisted on all three goals in the Warriors’ win over the Ponies.

Matt Fraser, Erik Gardner and Danny Alfano scored goals for 2-1 Nokomis while Mike Jacques made 10 saves on 13 shots.

Kevin Brown registered nine saves on 19 shots for 0-3 Foxcroft Academy.

Highview Chr. 8, Chop Point 0

At Charleston, Thiago Martinelli’s three goals led the Knights to victory in their season opener against Chop Point of Woolwich.

Nick Waite and Andrew Richards each added a pair of goals in the win for Highview Christian Academy. Anthony Kneeland also scored for the Knights. Devan Philbrick added a pair of assists while Martinelli had one assist.

Aaron White made one save for the Knights.

Logan Shaffer came up with 25 saves on 52 shots Chop Point.

Lisbon 2, Carrabec 1

At North Anson, Nick Osmond scored on a penalty kick with 3:54 remaining in the match to give the Greyhounds the win over the Cobras.

Scott White had tied the game with a goal with 8:02 left and Josh Eckhardt made eight saves on 14 shots for 2-0-1 Lisbon.

Wes Jordan opened the scoring on an assist from Corey McLaughlin with just over 14 minutes left on the clock. John Chretien made eight saves on 10 shots for 0-3 Carrabec.

JV: Lisbon 1-0

DI-Stonington 4, Sumner 1

At Stonington, Jeff Douglas scored two goals to lead the Mariners past the Tigers.

Evan Haskell had a goal and an assist and Nick Ciomei scored a goal for 1-2 Deer Isle-Stonington. Chris Gray made 10 saves on 16 shots.

Kyle Joy scored for 1-3 Sumner of East Sullivan and Mason Young made nine saves on 20 shots.

Bangor Christian 7, Searsport 1

At Searsport, Ben Sobey and Anthony Cole each scored three goals to power the Patriots by the Vikings.

Chase Ossinger chipped in with a goal and Eric Sobey, Ben’s brother, added two assists. Ignacio Bustos added two assists, Josh Griffin had one and D.J. McLeary made six saves on 12 shots for the 2-0-1 Patriots.

Matt Nickerson scored for 2-2 Searsport and Ryan Hast made 28 saves on 35 shots.

Islesboro 11, Liberty 0

At Blue Hill, T.L. Turner scored three goals while Jon Baldoc and Gavin Harkins added two each as the Eagles cruised to victory.

Ben Roberts, Joel Grindle, David Pike and Tim Kerr scored one goal apiece for 2-0 Islesboro. Rory Diffin made three saves on three shots.

Shawn Marshall and Andrew Birdsall made 11 saves on 28 shots for 0-1 Liberty School.

PVHS 2, Lee Acad. 1

At Lee, a goal and an assist from Penobscot Valley’s Matt Milligan led the Howlers to their second win.

Milligan scored his goal early in the first half and assisted on Dustin Nicholson’s goal with 14:36 remaining in the contest to secure the win. Cody Thompson had two saves for the 2-2 Howlers of Howland.

Kent Doane scored an unassisted goal to tie the game at one apiece with 33:41 remaining for 0-4-1 Lee Academy. Kris King had 14 saves.

Bangor 4, John Bapst 2

At Bangor Mental Health Institute, Ryan Jeffrey scored three goals, two in the second half, to lift the Rams to victory.

Alex McManus scored the other goal for 3-0 Bangor, while Matt Larochelle and Mike Larochelle each notched an assist. Payson Nichols made 10 saves on 13 shots.

Colby Theriault and Alex Means scored one goal each for 0-3 John Bapst of Bangor. Rick Hathaway made nine saves on 16 shots.

Camden Hills 5, Rockland 0

At Rockport, Damon Massey scored a pair of goals as Camden Hills earned its first victory of the season.

Massey scored the final two goals of the game, including one on a Casey Stearns assist, and also made an assist on the first goal of the game by Jake Dinces. Tom Dennen added a goal on a Dinces assist and gabe Gates scored on a pass from Jason Laurita. Morgan Kerr and Kyle Bragg combined to stop three shots for 1-1 Camden Hills. Nate Grade had 11 saves for 0-2 Rockland.

Schenck 5, Katahdin 2

At East Millinocket, Seth Johnston’s hat trick proved to be the difference as the Wolverines outlasted the Cougars.

Tyler Thompson and Chad McLaughlin also scored in the victory for 1-1 Schenck. Johnston, McLaughlin, Aaron White and Drew Fayle each provided an assist. Mike Rossignol had five saves.

Jake McNally and Thomas Rodgerson tallied a goal and an assist apiece for 0-4-1 Katahdin of Sherman Station. Matt Mehrhoff made 23 saves on 31 shots.

Woodland 6, Lubec 0

At Lubec, six different players scored as Woodland claimed its second victory of the season.

Craig Moody, Ben Leighton, Justin McCouskey, Andrew Scott, Chad Pike and Jeremy Gillespie each scored for the 2-0 Dragons. Pike, Gilispie and Rick Russo each contributed assists in the win. Aaron Moody stopped both of the shots he faced.

Jordan Hall blocked 21 of the 27 shots for 0-3 Lubec.

Machias 5, Narraguagus 1

At Machias, Austin Roberts and Chris Correll scored two goals each to power the Bulldogs past the Knights.

Joe Richards posted a goal and an assist for 2-0 Machias, while Jamie McCarthy added an assist. Marcus Frutchey made three saves on six shots.

Kyle Tenney scored on a Gabe Checker assist for 0-3-1 Narraguagus of Harrington. Eric Peltier made 10 saves on 16 shots.

Ashland 4, Central Aroostook 0

At Mars Hill, four players scored goals as the Hornets rolled by the Panthers.

Alan O’Clair, Jesse Good, Bruce Oaks and Peter Gardner found the back of the net for 3-1-1 Ashland and Buck Pineau recorded four saves on 11 shots.

Adam Crew and Jon Boyd combined to stop six of 11 shots for 3-6-1 Central Aroostook.

Field hockey

Central 1, PCHS 0 (OT)

At Corinth, Heather Lyford’s goal on a cross from Jenny Rollins 1:20 into overtime kept the Red Devils undefeated.

Jenna Dauphinee stopped nine shots for 3-0 Central of Corinth.

Amy Knowlton had six saves on 14 shots for 1-2 Piscataquis Community High School of Guilford.

JV: PCHS 3-1

John Bapst 2, Bangor 1

At Bangor, Diana Bush scored a pair of goals to lead the Crusaders over the Rams in a battle for city supremacy.

Bush scored 4:30 into the first half on a Meghan Gekeler assist and broke a 1-1 tie midway through the second half on a pass from Erika Getchell for John Bapst of Bangor. Julia Sleeper stopped six shots for the 2-2 Crusaders.

Monica Willey scored for Bangor on an assist from Mikayla Bolduc at the end of the first half. Bonnie Case blocked 15 of 26 shots for 1-2 Bangor.

JV: Bangor 1-0

Old Town 4, Hermon 0

At Hermon, four Indians scored to lead Old Town past the Hawks.

Melanie Enos, Alissa Dow, Mariel Conner, and Kaylee Dupuis each scored unassisted goals for the Indians. Mallory Dill stopped all three shots she faced for 2-0-1 Old Town. Melissa Hills blocked three of seven shots for 0-3 Hermon.

Girls soccer

Brewer 9, MDI 3

At Mount Desert on Thursday, Stacie Bean scored five goals to propel the Witches to victory.

Rachel Wing scored two goals and Melissa Jacobs netted one for Brewer. Stephanie Dickey made 19 saves on 22 shots.

Jenna Gordius paced Mount Desert Island with two goals and Lucy Shaw scored one. Trina Smith and Katie Massicotte combined to made 11 saves on 20 shots.

JV: MDI 9-0

Central Aroostook 3, Ashland 0

At Mars Hill, two goals by Stevi Fletcher led Central Aroostook of Mars Hill to its seventh win of the season.

Fletcher scored on a penalty kick and a direct free kick. Jocelyn Carvell added an insurance goal for the 7-3 Panthers on assists from Gabrielle Smith and Samantha Brewer. Brittany Lundeen earned the shutout with nine saves.

Ashley Nemer also had nine saves for 1-4 Ashland.
