BANGOR – A 25-year-old man who died of an accidental self-inflicted gunshot wound Sunday has been identified as Brant Linzman, formerly of California, who had been living in Bangor for at least the past year.
Authorities released his name Tuesday after contacting his family.
Linzman was playing with the loaded handgun when it went off, said Bangor police Detective Sgt. Mark Hathaway said. Linzman died of the gunshot wound to his head.
Police were called to 92 Columbia St. at 8:53 p.m. Sunday for a report of a shot fired, although it would be another eight hours before authorities were confident they had learned what had happened, Hathaway said.
Other people were in the apartment when the incident occurred, but the review by police and a state medical examiner determined there had been no foul play and no one else involved in the shooting.
Hathaway said that there was no indication that alcohol or drugs were involved, and it wasn’t clear whether a toxicology test would be done to determine if there were any intoxicants in his system.
The landlord told police that Linzman had been living in the apartment for about a year, although it wasn’t known how long he had been living in Bangor.
