Edkins propels SAHS

SHERMAN STATION – Corey Edkins scored an unassisted goal with about 19 minutes left in the first half Thursday, lifting Southern Aroostook of Dyer Brook to a 1-0 schoolboy soccer victory over Katahdin.

Edkins gathered in a loose ball in the penalty area and fired in a goal from about 10 yards out. Jeff Boutilier made 11 saves on 11 shots.

Burton Brayall and Matt Mehrhoff combined for 11 saves on 12 shots for 0-5-1 Katahdin.

Fort Kent 1, Caribou 0 (OT)

At Caribou, Robert Roy scored with four seconds left in the first overtime to give the Warriors the win over the Vikings.

Roy scored when he slammed in a shot from six yards out after a scramble in front of the Caribou goal Ben Bouchard picked up an assist on the goal. Dustin Nadeau made 11 saves on 14 shots for 4-3-1 Fort Kent.

Micah Maurio stopped 13 of 18 shots for 2-4-1 Caribou.

JV: Fort Kent 3-0

Jonesport-Beals 5, Lubec 1

At Lubec, Martin Alley scored two goals to lead the Royals to victory.

Matthew Merchant, Troy Alley and John Alley scored one goal apiece for 1-4 Jonesport-Beals, while Ben Durke notched two assists and Ross Griffin one.

Abraham Beal made five saves on six shots.

Derrick Baker scored an unassisted goal for 0-5 Lubec. Jordan Hall made 12 saves on 17 shots.

Madawaska 2, Limestone 0

Myles Morneault and Peter Gerard each scored an unassisted goal to lead the Owls past the Eagles.

John Cowie made two saves on five shots for 6-5-1 Madawaska.

Jake Manner came up with 16 saves on 36 shots for 6-5-1 Limestone.

Woodland 4, Calais 1

At Woodland, Jeremy Gillespie scored all four goals, two in each half, to propel the Dragons to victory.

Gillespie’s first-half goals were assisted by Chad Kneeland and Jeremy Clark, while Mike Tupper and Justin McCoubrey set up the second-half tallies. Daniel Newman and Aaron Moody combined to make eight saves on nine shots.

Andrew Roussel scored for Calais, assisted by Devon McPhee. Zach Gillespie made 14 saves on 18 shots.

WA Raiders 2, Narraguagus 0

At East Machias, Jared Gray’s two goals were all goalkeeper Jason Labonte (14 saves on 17 shots) needed to post the shutout.

Andy Walther dished out an assist for the 3-1 Raiders.

Eric Peltier registered 19 saves on 43 shots for the 1-4-1 Knights of Harrington.

Fort Fairfield 6, Hodgdon 2

At Hodgdon, Jesse Sayers tallied two goals as the Tigers beat the Hawks.

Josh Turner and Matt Oakes each had a goal plus an assist for 10-1 Fort Fairfield. Chris Osgood and Mickey Browning added a goal each, and Ryan Helstrom dished out an assist. Tyler Bernaiche made seven saves on 12 shots.

Zach Good and Matt Hanning netted a goal each for the 3-6-2 Hawks. Hanning and Jimmy Griffin each had an assist. Hanning teamed up with James Robertson in net, combining on 13 saves off 27 shots.

Hermon 4, Foxcroft 1

At Dover-Foxcroft, Jason Shorey racked up two goals plus an assist as the Hawks defeated the Ponies.

Brian McGinley and Chris Harding scored a goal each for 2-2-2 Hermon. Joey Carmichael and Adam Gould had an assist each. Chris Fournier made 14 saves on 17 shots.

Manuel Blanc tallied a goal and Sunny Kim an assist for 1-4 Foxcroft. Kevin Brown and Dan Lubas combined to stop seven of 13 shots.

John Bapst 4, Penquis 1

At Milo, the Crusaders of Bangor tallied three second-half goals to break a 1-1 halftime deadlock.

A.J. Stein, Sam Hill, Josh Jameson and Bjocen Sudeck picked up a goal each for 3-2-1 John Bapst. Sam Gray dished out an assist. Rick Hathaway rejected nine of 15 shots.

Jordan Allen scored off a pass from brother Justin Allen for the Patriots. Kevin Nason made 15 saves on 21 shots.

Greenville 7, Valley 0

At Greenville, Jonah Lizotte scored two goals and notched an assist to help the Lakers improve to 5-1.

Rory Owens, Nathan Woodbury, and Kevin Lebel each added a goal and an assist for the winners. Richard Folsom and Kyle Belmont had a goal apiece. Gregory Aucoin made seven saves on seven shots.

For 1-4 Valley of Bingham, Eric Hatfield made 11 saves on 18 shots.

Dexter 1, DI-Stonington 1 (2OT)

At Dexter, Doug Henson scored for the Mariners with 5:04 to play in the second half, but the goaltenders held down the fort after that.

Chris Gray managed 14 saves off 23 shots for 1-3-1 Deer Isle-Stonington.

Adam Eastman scored a first-half goal for the 1-3-1 Tigers. Brian Hersey made six saves on eight shots.

Monmouth 5, Carrabec 1

At North Anson, five different players scored for the Mustangs in the victory.

Mark Wade, Robert Wells, Steve Brauthwaite, Shane Kibler and Josh Straep all scored for 2-2 Monmouth. Kyle Pelletier needed to make only two saves on just six shots.

Trey Gaw scored for the 0-4 Cobras. John Cretien and Jeremy Howell combined to make seven saves on 14 shots.

Girls soccer

Katahdin 3, So. Aroostook 2

At Sherman Station, K.C. Duffy-Stanley’s goal off a Krystle McMoarn pass put the Cougars up 3-1 with 5:42 left and helped them hold off the Warriors of Dyer Brook.

McMoarn and Duffy-Stanley also hooked up for the second goal with McMoarn scoring and Duffy-Stanley assisting. Michelle Martin scored the first goal off a Kristen McAvoy assist and goalie Jayme Green finished with six saves on 11 shots.

Audrey Charette and Olivia McGary each scored a goal for 3-6 Southern Aroostook with Alicia Crandall assisting on each. Crystal Cameron made 13 saves on 23 shots.

Limestone 1, Madawaska 0

At Madawaska, Ashley Brooker’s unassisted goal 27 minutes into the game was all Nikki Michaud needed (22 saves, 29 shots) to post the shutout for the 6-4-1 Eagles.

Erin Pelletier made three saves on four shots for the 2-7-1 Owls.

Hodgdon 5, Fort Fairfield 1

At Hodgdon, Shanna McGary racked up four goals and Jamie Nightingale provided two assists as the Hawks rolled.

Amanda Fitzpatrick contributed a goal and an assist for 8-3 Hodgdon and Heather Martin dished out an assist. Lindsay Stewart stopped nine of 13 shots.

Maranda Butler scored for the 3-6-1 Tigers and Brittany McLaughlin had an assist. Danielle Searles made 17 saves on 26 shots.

Greenville 3, Valley 1

At Bingham, Diane Aucoin tallied a goal plus an assist to spark the Lakers.
