BOSTON – Former UMaine standout Peter Metcalf was one of 11 players the Boston Bruins sent to its American Hockey League affiliate in Providence on Thursday.

The team downsized its roster to 44 players in preparation for the regular season.

Sent to the Providence Bruins: goaltenders Peter Hamerlik and Adam Hauser; defensemen Kevin Dallman and Metcalf; and forwards Keith Aucoin, Carl Corazzini, Jeff Giuliano, Paul Harvey, Pat Leahy, Chris Paradise and Darren Van Oene.

Boston opened its preseason Thursday in Worcester against the St. Louis Blues.
