Kristina “Tina” West, a soccer and softball player at the University of Southern Maine in Gorham, was among 50 state winners of the NCAA Woman of the Year Award.

Ten national finalists will be announced later this month for the honor, which is given to female student-athletes who have excelled in academics, athletics and community service.

West, a native of Gorham, captained the Huskies’ softball and soccer squads. She was involved with USM’s Student-Athlete Advisory Committee and the Athletes Committed to Education and Sports mentoring program.

West also coached at local youth softball and soccer clinics and participated in dance. The dean’s list student is majoring in communication with a minor in business.
