BANGOR – The Bangor Symphony Orchestra is looking for high school music students from across the state to apply for the Maine High School Concerto Competition. Each year, the winning high school student receives the Annas-Cupp award of $500, as well as the chance to play his or her winning piece with the entire Bangor Symphony Orchestra. This year is the 21st anniversary of the competition. Applications are due Oct. 15.

All applicants must submit a written application as well as five-minute tape demonstrating their abilities. After the Competition Committee of Bangor Symphony professional musicians reviews the tapes and applications, the symphony will announce the finalists who prepare to perform in the public competition in January.

To receive an application and information, contact the Symphony Office at 942-5555, (800) 639-3221, or e-mail at symphony@bangorsymphony.com. Information is also available at www.bangorsymphony.com.
