BREWER – Senior tailback Seth Emerson led a powerful running attack with 137 yards on 14 carries as the unbeaten Brewer Witches defeated the Fryeburg Academy Raiders in high school football action 28-16 Saturday at Doyle Field.
Court Rancourt had 94 yards and one touchdown on 13 carries and Josh Caldwell totaled a TD and 65 yards on 12 runs for the Witches, who averaged 6.6 yards per carry and finished with 359 total yards – all on the ground.
Rancourt also had an interception while defensive end Matt Whalen led the defense with two sacks. Brewer held Fryeburg to 57 yards rushing, but the Raiders had 203 through the air – 79 of which came on a TD pass on the their second play from scrimmage in the game.
“We got down 8-0 and then 8-6, so I think the key for us was that scoring drive we had with two minutes left in the first half,” said Witches coach Josh Emmett.
Brewer drove 62 yards in four plays and scored on Chris Fox’s 12-yard TD run to pull ahead for good 14-8.
Saturday’s hot weather aided Brewer, which pounded Fryeburg by rotating in a stable of fresh running backs.

Belfast 58, York 6
At York, senior tailback Jeff Parenteau averaged 20.7 yards per carry as he ran for four touchdowns and 228 yards on 11 carries for unbeaten Belfast.
John Lear notched a TD and 102 yards on just two carries for the 3-0 Lions while Matt Welch had 71 yards and a TD on three carries. The Lions racked up 474 of their 496 total yards on the ground.
Backup linebacker Josh Aldus led the Lions with eight tackles, a sack, a fumble recovery and return for a touchdown. Welch and Kane Ackley each had eight tackles while Paul Herman had seven as Belfast forced four turnovers.
York rushed for 166 yards en route to 208 total for the game.

At Old Town, James Oberg passed for a pair of touchdowns and Nate Brown ran for two more as the 3-0 Lakers of Naples defeated winless Old Town.
Brandon Eastman and Jason Adams each had eight carries for the Indians. Eastman had 46 yards and Adams had 45. Mike Russell’s touchdown in the first quarter put Old Town up 7-6 after Nick St. Louis’ PAT kick.

At Gorham, Andy Oldenburg rushed for three touchdowns and 93 yards to help lead the Rams past Mount Desert Island.
Placekicker-receiver Dustin Spiller caught a 34-yard TD pass, picked off a pass and scored on a 37-yard return, and kicked a 29-yard field goal.
Tailback John Lewis put the Trojans ahead briefly with a 6-yard TD run in the first quarter.

At Waterville, Josh Meyer ran for three touchdowns and 189 yards on 14 carries to help lead the undefeated Skowhegan Indians to the victory.
Jared Walker provided the bulk of Skowhegan’s remaining yards on the ground with 184 on 16 carries as the Indians racked up 465 yards on offense. Scott Libby and Zach Davis were among the defensive leaders.
Ryan Lockard completed 13 of 22 passes for 140 yards and a touchdown. The Purple Panthers were able to move the ball, but couldn’t punch the ball into the end zone.
