LAGRANGE – A Lincoln man received extensive facial injuries Monday when the tractor-trailer he was driving overturned on a sharp curve in south LaGrange on Route 16.

Charles Savage, 51, was taken by Old Town ambulance to Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor. Savage was still being evaluated late Monday afternoon, according to a spokesman at EMMC.

Savage, and a motorist following behind him, told Penobscot Deputy Sheriff Peter Stone they heard a loud bang before the truck, which was loaded with wood chips, leaned to one side and tipped over.

Stone said speed was not a factor in the accident. Officials from the truck weight division of the Maine State Police could find nothing obvious that would have caused the truck to tip over, he said.

Savage had been hauling wood chips from Milo to Old Town for Me. Chips of Old Town when the accident occurred at about 9:30 a.m. The 2000 Freightliner was demolished.

Traffic on one side of Route 16 was tied up until 3 p.m., according to Stone. He said LaGrange and Milo firefighters assisted at the scene.
