Store robbery suspectsfail to make bail

BANGOR – Two men remained in Penobscot County Jail, unable to make bail Monday on charges that they robbed two Bangor convenience stores at gunpoint last week.

Antonio F. Pinto, 20, and Roger Tenney, 21, both of Bangor, appeared Monday afternoon in 3rd District Court.

Tenney’s bail was set at $50,000 surety or $10,000 cash by Judge Jesse Gunther. Pinto’s bail was set at $35,000 surety or $5,000 cash, lower than his alleged accomplice, because he had no adult criminal record.

Both men were charged with the Friday robbery of the Eastside Market at the intersection of Grove and Garland streets. Pinto also was charged with the Thursday robbery of Lucky’s Market on Center Street.

Tenney also was charged with burglary and theft of a firearm, allegedly stolen from a First Street home a few days before the robbery at Lucky’s, according to Bangor police.

If convicted of armed robbery, each man could face up to 20 years in prison per count. The minimum sentence for armed robbery is four years, Gunther told the men Monday.

A probable cause hearing was set for 8:30 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 7.
