Tigers’ Bones leads way in shutout of Royals

EASTPORT – Jason Bones scored three goals and assisted on another as Shead defeated Jonesport-Beals 8-0 in boys soccer action Monday.

Danny Marshall, Ben Maloney, James MacDonald, Gerald Holmes, and Mikey Barnard also scored for the 6-1 Tigers, while Ricky Kroll collected three assists. Darrin Constant made one save.

Derrick Beal made four saves for the 1-5 Royals.

Machias 6, Lubec 1

At Machias, Chris Correll scored a pair of goals, Joe Richards had a goal and two assists, and Jamie McCarthy had a goal and an assist for the 5-0-1 Bulldogs.

Zac McNally and Ed St. Pierre had the other goals while Austin Roberts and Marcus Frutchey contributed assists.

Frutchey and Correll faced two shots in goal.

Chris Jones had an unassisted goal for the Hornets. Jordan Hall made 20 saves on 26 shots for 0-6 Lubec.

Fort Fairfield 6, Katahdin 2

At Sherman Station, Jake Chambers and Ryan Helstrom each scored two goals for the Tigers.

Jesse Sayers and Kris Osgood had the other goals while Osgood and Shea Armstrong added assists. Tyler Bernaiche saved 11 shots for 11-1 Fort Fairfield.

Cameron Cunningham and Travis Robinson scored the Cougars’ goals. Matt Mehrhoff and Frank Grass combined to stop 16 of 22 shots for 0-9-1 Katahdin.

Caribou 2, Foxcroft 1

At Caribou Saturday, Eamonn Harrigan assisted on the first goal and then scored what would prove to the be the game-winner with 16:52 left in the game to give the Vikings the win.

For the 3-4-1 Vikings, Jon Bell assisted on the game-winning goal and Micah Maurio saved 10 of 13 shots.

For the 1-4 Ponies, Sunny Kim scored unassisted and Dan Lubas made 11 saves on 20 shots.

Dexter 3, Piscataquis 3 (2OT)

At Guilford, Sean Towle tied it up with an assist from Luc Marquis with 32:07 left in the second half.

Ben Lemieux and Taso Petridis each scored a goal for 1-4-2 Dexter. Sam Bowers assisted on Petridis’ goal and Brian Hersey stopped 25 of 32 shots.

Jon Prescott scored two goals for the 3-0-4 Pirates. Caleb Davis scored the other while John Garrett-Young and Ben Stearns had assists. Josh Luellen made 10 saves on 15 shots.

Hampden 3, Nokomis 2

At Newport, Bud Bridges scored the game-winner off a Nattapong Kongsuriya assist with 17 minutes left.

Jake Reynolds and Bridges scored the other goals as Keith Zanardi and Matt Pierce provided assists. Ryan Hannan stopped 10 of 18 shots for 3-3 Hampden.

Matt Frasier and Justin Nichols scored the Warriors’ goals, both unassisted. Mike Jacques made 15 saves on 19 shots for 3-3-1 Nokomis.

JV: Hampden 5-0

Sumner 3, Searsport 2 (2OT)

At East Sullivan Saturday, Will Seyffer scored the game-winning goal for 2-4-1 Sumner in the second overtime.

Roger Sargeant had two goals and an assist for the Tigers while Jeff Malloy and Trevor Renwick each tallied assists. Carlos Valencia made 13 saves on 16 shots.

Matt Nickerson and Miles Pastuhov each scored unassisted goals for 2-5 Searsport while Kurt Lockhart and Jonathan Moore combined to stop 19 of 28 shots.

Central 7, Sumner 1

At Corinth, Joe Allen led the Red Devils in scoring with four goals.

Adam Allen, Blake Goodwin, and Mike Roman each scored a goal. Tom Palmer aided with two assists and Scott Chambers and Mike Parker combined to stop nine of 11 shots for 4-1-1 Central.

Roger Sargent scored the Tigers’ goal with an assist from Trevor Renewick. Carlos Velencia and Mason Young blocked 17 of 26 shots for 2-5-1 Sumner.

Schenck 5, Penobscot Valley 1

At East Millinocket, Seth Johnson led the way with four goals for the Wolverines.

Tyler Thompson scored the other goal and Drew Fayle assisted on two goals. Mike Rossignol stopped 18 of 25 shots for 4-2-1 Schenck.

Matt Mulligan scored for 4-2 Penobscot Valley of Howland and Garrett Lavertu blocked seven of 16 shots.

Girls soccer

Lee 3, Woodland 0

At Lee, Shelby Pickering racked up three goals as the Pandas remained undefeated.

Sam Cole and Jenny Stevens each added an assist. Ashlee Gifford stopped nine of 10 shots for 6-0 Lee.

Lauren Troiani made 17 saves on 25 shots for the 4-2-1 Dragons.

Katahdin 3, Fort Fairfield 0

At Sherman Station, Krystle McMoarn scored a goal and assisted on the other two as Katahdin, which had only 10 players available, was able to earn its third straight win. The Cougars are 3-6.

K.C. Duffy-Stanley had a goal and an assist and Michelle Martin had the other goal for Katahdin, and Jayme Green made seven saves on 16 shots.

Danielle Searles made three stops on 14 shots for 3-8-1 Fort Fairfield.

Field hockey

Mattanawcook 2, Piscataquis 1

At Guilford, Jen Oliver’s unassisted goal with 11:43 remaining in regulation enabled Mattanawcook to even its record at 3-3.

Courtney Gulesian opened the scoring for MA off an Ali Keegan pass in the first half but Karole-Anne Emery equalized moments later off a Kristi Levesque feed.

MA’s Colleen Cloran and Amy Knowlton each made nine saves for 2-4 Piscataquis Community.

JV: PCHS 2-1
