BANGOR – Matt Cook, a local age-group coach and former Bangor High standout, has been named the new coach of the youth swim team affiliated with the Bangor YMCA and Bangor-Brewer YWCA.

Cook is the Bangor YMCA assistant youth and family director and coordinates the YMCA’s outreach program in the Capehart section of Bangor. He helped coach the YMCA swim team for three years.

A Class A state champion and Bangor record-holder in the 500-yard freestyle, Cook was on an undefeated Rams team from 1992-96. He also qualified for the YMCA national championships in 1996.
