The Acadia Hospital celebrated its 10th anniversary recently in style with a cookout and a proclamation from the city of Bangor.

The Acadia Hospital employees and volunteers enjoyed sunny weather as they gathered outside behind The Acadia Hospital. Bangor Mayor Michael Crowley attended the event and read a proclamation from the city of Bangor designating Aug. 27 as The Acadia Hospital Day in Bangor.

After reading the official proclamation, Mayor Crowley congratulated Acadia chief executive officer Dottie Hill, Acadia employees, volunteers, and board of trustees for their caring and leadership in the field of mental health and substance abuse.

The Acadia Hospital, a member of Eastern Maine Healthcare, is a community-owned, nonprofit psychiatric and chemical dependency hospital located in Bangor. Acadia offers inpatient, partial and outpatient psychiatric services to children, adolescents and adults. It also provides chemical dependency treatment to adolescents and adults.

In a short period of time The Acadia Hospital has become nationally recognized for excellence in mental health care and substance abuse treatment, officials said.

“We have many of our employees serving on state, regional and national professional organization boards,” said Hill, who is past president of the American Psychiatric Nurses Association. “We are constantly working to create the most beneficial care environment for our patients, and that work is beginning to be recognized on a national level.”

Last year, The Acadia Hospital had 2,160 inpatient admissions, 20,000 outpatient visits at four clinics located in Bangor, Blue Hill, Lincoln and Pittsfield, and 70 patients a day in partial programs.
