I read with interest last Saturday’s dedication of the Cold War Fighter inceptor that has historical status here in Maine and in particular Dow Field, now Bangor International Airport. While it is important that the restored jet fighter is now available for viewing by retirees and members of the Maine Air National Guard, it is just as important to the general public and the children of Maine, our future Air Force and Air Guard volunteers.
It would be nice if the aircraft were located in a secure location more accessible for viewing by the general public. The Maine air museum grounds on Maine Avenue is already the location of a Maine Army National Guard Huey helicopter, the workhorse of the Army during and after the Vietnam War. This secure location adjacent to one of the most accessible public thoroughfares at the airport could function as such a public viewing spot for such an aircraft as well.
