NEW SHARON – A one-car accident in this western Maine town has claimed the life of a 42-year-old man from Chesterville.

Gregory Baker was headed north on Route 27 on Thursday when his car veered to the right, went down an embankment and hit a tree, state police said.

Firefighters from Farmington and New Sharon had to cut the car apart to free the injured man from the wreck. Baker was taken by helicopter to Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston, where he died.
