DOVER-FOXCROFT – A balanced defensive attack paved the way as the Foxcroft Academy Ponies earned a 54-0 victory in their homecoming contest against John Bapst of Bangor on a night when 16 other games were called off as rain blanketed the state.

“There was no threat of thunder and lightning and we feel we have a first-class facility that can handle some rain,” Foxcroft Academy Head Coach Paul Withee said. “It’s Pony football and we want to play.”

The Ponies moved to 4-0 on the season as they held the visiting Crusaders to 27 total yards. The Ponies, on the other hand, amassed 304 total yards.

Ryan McNaulty led the way for the Pony defense with six tackles and two sacks. Josh Sands added eight tackles and Trey Merrill seven.

Danny White led the way for Foxcroft with rushing touchdowns of 17 and 14 yards. He also returned a punt 55 yards for a score. White finished with four carries for 51 yards,

Lincoln Robinson added a one yard score, Josh Withee a 23 yard run, Matt Earnest a seven yard run and Joey Caparrelli a 39 yard score. Withee finished running three times for 36 yards and completing three of six passes for 78 yards. Pat Healy led John Bapst with five carries for 17 of his team’s 27 yards.

Slippery ground did lead to one injured Pony as runningback Josh Sands twisted a knee in the second quarter and was taken out of the game as a precautionary measure.

“It’s great we’re still undefeated at this point in the season, but we’re just taking it one game at a time,” Withee said.
