LUBEC – The Washington Academy Raiders ran out to an early lead en route to a 6-0 schoolboy soccer victory over the Lubec Hornets Friday.

The Raiders of East Machias were able to score six goals before the game was called due to concern for the safety of the players. Torrential downpours ended the contest with more than 20 minutes remaining in the second half.

Nenad Mimic and Jarred Gray led Washington Academy with two goals apiece. Andy Walther and Sam Hostetter also scored while Gray, Charlie Shim, and Whitney Skuws added assists.

Jason Labonte did not face a shot in the contest for the Raiders. Jordan Hall stopped 21 of the 31 shots he faced for 0-8 Lubec.

Machias 6, Woodland 1

At Machias, Chris Correll scored three goals and Joe Richards added three assists as Machias remained undefeated at 6-0-1.

Austin Roberts, Jamie McCarthy and Patrick McDonald also scored in the win for the Bulldogs. Roberts also added an assist. Marcus Frutchey stopped all three shots he faced.

Justin McCoubrey scored the lone goal of the game for the Dragons on an assist from Jesse Nicholson. Aaron Moody blocked 16 of the 22 shots he faced for 4-5 Woodland.
