Crusaders edge Witches Getchell scores winning goal in second overtime

BREWER – Erika Getchell scored off an assist from Ashley Freeman in the second overtime to give the John Bapst Crusaders a 3-2 high school field hockey victory over the Brewer Witches Tuesday.

Getchell also scored the first goal and had an assist for the 4-4 winners of Bangor. Diana Bush added a goal and Megan Gekeler had an assist while Julia Sleeper stopped seven of nine shots.

Jessica O’Connell scored 2-6 Brewer’s first goal with an assist from Tricia Hamm. Kim Bolduc added a goal and Sarah England made eight saves on 13 shots.

JV: John Bapst 2-1

Nokomis 1, Old Town 0

At Newport, Morgan Randlett scored with six minutes remaining in the game to lead 4-3-1 Nokomis to victory.

Michelle Barden assisted the game-winner while Brandi Davis stopped two of two shots.

Emelie Richards faced nine shots and stopped eight for 5-3-1 Old Town.

JV: Nokomis 6-0

Stearns 1, Mattanawcook 0

At Millinocket, Casey Popp smacked in a goal 13 minutes into the game with an assist from Leslie Osborne to give Stearns the win.

Julie Emery stopped five of five shots for the 4-3 Minutemen.

Colleen Cloran and Ashley Emery combined to make six saves on seven shots for 4-4 Mattanawcook of Lincoln.

Girls soccer

Bangor 2, Nokomis 0

At Bangor, Kristin Bogan scored 6-2-1 Bangor’s first goal with 31:45 left in the first half and Laura Clarke scored second goal with 25:41 left in the second half. Ilyse Angst stopped seven of 12 shots.

Tia Beauregard made 13 saves on 24 shots for 3-4-1 Nokomis.

JV: Bangor 9-0

Camden Hills 6, MCI 1

At Rockport, Caitlin Brown scored three goals and had an assist to give 5-3 Camden Hills the win.

Claire Neville scored a goal and made an assist while Tana Scott and Nesli Orhon both scored a goal for the Windjammers. Brittany Quinn and Nikki Sideris each added an assist and Annah Sullivan stopped three of four shots.

Jessi Littlefield scored for 1-7 Maine Central Institute of Pittsfield with an assist from Kristen Hume. Casey Dodge made 17 saves on 23 shots.

DI-Stonington 1, Bangor Chr. 0

At Bangor, Hollan Oliver scored unassisted from 20 yards out with 7:35 remaining in the game to give the Mariners their first victory.

Christina Fifield made seven saves on nine shots for 1-8 Deer Isle-Stonington.

Pam Reitsma made five saves on seven shots for the 5-3-2 Patriots.

Hampden 5, Old Town 1

At Old Town, Danielle Billings scored two goals to lead Hampden to its ninth win without a loss.

Kim Stevenson added a goal and made two assists for the Broncos. Katie Lawler and Alyssa Forrest each scored a goal and Erin Campbell had an assist. Gabby Schrage made 15 saves on 19 shots.

Jen Higgins scored a goal with an assist from Shaylee Moulton for 4-4-1 Old Town. Rene Thibodeau stopped 16 of 25 shots.

Lee 9, Southern Aroostook 0

At Dyer Brook Monday, Shelby Pickering scored four goals and assisted on two to help the Pandas improve to 9-0.

Marci Moors added a goal and two assists for Lee Academy while her twin sister, Jackie Moors, also scored a goal. Jenny Stevens notched a goal and an assist. Ashlee Gifford and Jessie Kuester each added a goal.

Gifford and Ashley Jandreau combined for two saves on two shots.

For 3-6 Southern Aroostook of Dyer Brook, Crystal Cameron made nine saves on 22 shots.

Narraguagus 6, Highview Chr. 0

At Harrington, Linny Barbee scored three goals and assisted on another to pace 8-1 Narraguagus to victory.

Kimmy Beal and Shelby Howe both scored a goal and made an assist and Sara Kennedy added a goal. Alicia Tenney stopped all 13 shots she faced.

Sherry Cooper made 40 saves on 48 shots for 1-3 Highview Christian of Charleston.

Boys soccer

Central 2, Dexter 0

At Corinth, Joe Allen scored Central’s first goal with eight minutes left in the first half with an assist from Adam Allen as the Red Devils blanked the Tigers.

Joe Allen added an insurance goal with two minutes left in the second half with an assist from Blake Goodwin for 6-2-1 Central. Scott Chambers stopped 13 of 17 shots.

Brian Hersey made 17 saves on 25 shots for 2-6-2 Dexter.

Bangor 4, Nokomis 1

At Newport, Ryan Jeffrey scored two of Bangor’s four second-half goals to carry the Rams to victory after they trailed 1-0 at halftime.

Jeffrey scored the winning goal off a Mike Larochelle assist with 24:13 left in the game and finished the scoring when he converted a penalty kick with 5:48 left.

Larochelle chipped in with an unassisted goal and Alex McManus scored off a Jeremy Kenney pass for the 7-1-1 winners. Payson Nichols and Josh Heath combined to make 11 saves on 16 shots.

Matt Thornton scored an unassisted goal for 4-4-1 Nokomis and Mike Jacques made 12 saves on 19 shots.

Penobscot Valley 4, Penquis 3

At Milo, Nick Ware scored the game-winning goal with 19:20 to go in the second half to give 7-2-1 Penobscot Valley of Howland the win.

Brody Artes, Dustin Nicholson and Matt Mulligan each scored a goal and Ware also had an assist. Garrett Lavertu made 16 saves on 21 shots.

Dustin Perkins and Justin Allen each scored a goal and made an assist for 5-4-1 Penquis. Jordan Allen also scored a goal. Kevin Nason made 13 saves on 19 shots.

Camden Hills 1, MCI 0

At Pittsfield, Barry Beveridge scored the unassisted game-winning goal for Camden Hills 14 minutes into the first half.

Morgan Kerr made seven saves on 11 shots for the 5-3 Windjammers.

Shawn Bassford stopped 11 of 13 shots for 3-5-1 Maine Central Institute.

Seacoast 7, Highview 3

At Charleston, Blake Waterson scored three goals as Seacoast Christian powered past Highview Christian.

Adam MacDonald scored two goals, Isaac Glidden had a goal and three assists and Dan Sprague had a goal and two assists for 5-0 Seacoast Christian of South Berwick. Josh Pitchett made four saves on 16 shots.

Anthony Kneeland, Thiago Martinelli and Nick Waite scored goals and Aaron Waite made stopped 18 of 24 shots for 4-2 Highview Christian.

Schenck 5, Houlton 0

At East Millinocket, Seth Johnston scored four goals to lead the Wolverines past the Shiretowners.

Chad McLaughlin scored a goal and Tyler Thompson had two assists for 6-2-1 Schenck. Drew Fayle and Pat Jamo each had an assist. Mike Rossignol made six saves on seven shots for this fourth shutout.

Eric O’Connell made 10 saves on 20 shots for the 1-5-5 Shiretowners.

Orono 0, Hermon 0 (2OT)

At Hermon, the Red Riots and the Hawks battled to a scoreless deadlock.

Evan James stopped all 13 shots he faced for 2-5-2 Orono and Phil Cayford came up with 12 saves on as many shots for 2-5-3 Hermon.

JV: Hermon 3-0

Bangor Christian 7, Lee 1

At Lee, Ben Sobey, Anthony Cole, and Ignacio Bustos all scored two goals apiece for 5-2-1 Bangor Christian. Eric Sobey scored the team’s other goal and E.J. McCleary stopped 14 of 21 shots.

Drew Pickering scored 1-7-1 Lee’s goal and Kris King made 14 saves on 24 shots.

Old Town 6, Hampden 2

At Hampden, John Garrity scored three goals to help carry 7-3 Old Town past Hampden.

Kevin Emerson, Troy Connally and Tim Niles each contributed with goals for the Indians while Sean Robbins and Matt Petrie tallied assists. Tyler Tracewski made 14 saves on 19 shots in net.

Natapong Kongsuriya scored off a pass from Adam Standley while Peter Alexander assisted a goal by Joe Madigan. Ryan Hannan faced 23 shots and stopped 11 for 4-5 Hampden.

JV: Hampden 6-0

Islesboro 8, Liberty 0

At Islesboro, Gavin Harkins and T.L. Tutor scored two goals and had an assist each to pace the Eagles to victory

Jon Bolduc provided a goal and an assist. Ben Roberts, Nate Gorham and David Pike scored one goal apiece for 6-0 Islesboro. Rory Diffin, Luke Thomas and Tim Kerr combined to make two saves.

Tyler Leath made 23 saves on 40 shots for 1-5 Liberty of Blue Hill.
