Great Danes nip Bears

ORONO – Vadim Ivanushvhenko scored off a pass from Savvas Theofilou at 43:26 of the first half for the game’s only goal as Albany blanked the University of Maine men 1-0 in soccer action Wednesday.

Bouna Coundol made four saves on 13 shots for the 6-3 Great Danes, while Josh Sjostrom countered with four saves against 16 shots for the 1-5-1 Black Bears.

Colby 2, So. Maine 1 (OT)

At Gorham, Jamie Lue scored the game-winner off a rebounded shot from Bobby Abendroth with 10 seconds left in the first overtime for the victorious White Mules.

Trevor McWilliams knocked in a corner kick for 4-2 Colby. Andy Danziger and Brian Davidson combined to make three saves on nine shots.

Andy Budelman notched a goal and Mike Suesse an assist for the 3-4-1 Huskies. Chris Willard made four saves on 11 shots.

Field hockey

UM-Farmington 6, St. Joseph’s 1

At Farmington, Dorice Reitchel racked up three goals to power the 6-3 Beavers past the 3-7 Monks.

Three other players provided the other goals for the winners: Nikki Levesque, Sarah Dorley, and Amanda Nimon. Dorley also had an assist, as did Megan Waterman, Angie White, and Lori Welch. Ashleigh Beitte and Fawn Albert combined to make seven saves.

Mary Tibbetts notched seven saves for St. Joe’s of Standish.

Plymouth State 1, So. Maine 0

At Gorham, Lilly Silva’s first-half goal held up as Plymouth State knocked off Southern Maine to become the only unbeaten team in the Little East Conference.

Goalie Ellen Ward made three saves on six shots for the 7-1 Panthers (4-0 LEC). Jessie Superchi made 13 saves on 17 shots for the Huskies (7-3, 3-1).
