WATERVILLE – Sophomore running Aaron Stepka ran for 217 yards and three touchdowns Saturday to lead Colby College to a 27-19 victory over previously unbeaten Wesleyan Univesrity at Seaverns Field.
Wesleyan (2-1) held a 19-14 lead after three quarters, but Stepka scored two touchdowns in just over two minutes late in the final quarter to put the game away.
While Colby (1-2) was running the ball, Wesleyan got most of its offense through the air. Quarterback Brennan Carney completed 14 of 38 passes for 300 yards and three touchdowns.
Nichols 48, Maine Maritime 0
DUDLEY, Mass. – Nick Perron threw four touchdown passes, three to Ben Karter, to lift Nichols to a 48-0 homecoming victory over Maine Maritime on Saturday.
Perron, who was 8-for-16 for 177 yards, hit Jim DeLorie with a 20-yard scoring pass to open the scoring. He then hit Karter with scoring passes of 24, 49 and 12 yards as Nichols (3-2, 1-0 Freedom) took a 34-0 halftime lead.
Karter finished with six catches for 148 yards.
Maine Maritime (0-4, 0-1) was led by Justin Cummings with 62 yards rushing.
Williams 28, Bates 0
LEWISTON – Joe Reardon passed for 235 yards and a touchdown to lead Williams to a 28-0 win Saturday over Bates.
Reardon had a 21-yard touchdown pass to spark a 17-point second quarter to lead Williams (3-0, 3-0 NESCAC) to a commanding halftime lead. He also ran for a 1-yard touchdown in the fourth quarter.
Despite the shutout, Bates (0-3, 0-3) had several tough goal-line stands.
Tufts 44, Bowdoin 13
BRUNSWICK – Drew Blewett and Evan Zupancic had two interceptions apiece as Tufts picked off six passes in a 44-13 win Saturday over Bowdoin.
Tufts (3-0, 3-0 NESCAC) gained 481 yards on offense, including 284 rushing yards, led by Chuck McGraw’s 148 yards on 32 carries.
The team also got 197 yards passing, including an 83-yard touchdown pass from Scott Treacy to Tim Mack on the last play of the first half to give Tufts a 14-0 lead.
Bowdoin (0-3, 0-3) closed to within 27-13 early in the fourth quarter, but Tufts closed out the game with three consecutive touchdowns.
