ELLSWORTH – Full-time firefighter Kevin Kane of the Ellsworth Fire Department completed the National Fire Academy’s Fire-Arson Investigation course in Emmitsburg, Md., on Sept. 27. Kane has been a member of the Ellsworth department for five years.

The investigation course gives the student skills to identify the origin and cause of a fire, conduct a technically and legally sound investigation and pursue the case through the judicial system.

Through the programs offered by the U.S. Fire Administration’s National Fire Academy and the Emergency Management Institute, the Federal Emergency Management Agency promotes the professional development of the nation’s emergency professionals.

FEMA’s training goals are to enhance capability at the community level, and to better prepare for emergencies by improving technical competence and public policy perspective of key emergency managers and staff.
