CALAIS – Maine Public Broadcasting Corp. recently was awarded a $41,319 grant from the federal government to replace the WMED-FM radio transmitter in Calais.

The grant will strengthen Maine Public Radio’s signal in the Calais area and further prepare the nonprofit radio service for the eventual government-mandated conversion to digital.

MPBC received the grant from the Public Telecommunications Facilities Program, an arm of the national Telecommunications and Information Administration, which assists in the planning and construction of public telecommunications facilities.

As the largest member-supported organization in Maine, MPBC provides public television and radio services to audiences in Maine, New Hampshire and New Brunswick, through Maine PBS and Maine Public Radio. For more information, visit www.mpbc.org.
