COLUMBIA FALLS – An Eastport woman suffered minor injuries after the truck she had been riding in struck a moose Monday evening.

Angela Barnes, 82, was taken to Down East Community Hospital in Machias, where she was treated for a cut to her forehead, Trooper Jeff Clark of the Maine State Police said.

Angela McPhail, 41, of Perry had been driving the 2000 Toyota Tacoma when the moose ran across the road.

McPhail slammed on her brakes and attempted to swerve around the animal, but still hit the moose, Clark said.

Barnes suffered a gash to her forehead but was not seriously injured, while McPhail was not injured. Both had been wearing seat belts. The truck had more than $3,000 in damage.

The moose was killed in the accident.
