Andy Frost leads Witches past Warriors

BREWER – Andy Frost’s 25-yard blast with 13:11 to play was the winning goal as the Brewer High School Witches upended Nokomis High of Newport 2-1 Thursday in schoolboy soccer action.

Chris Luce assisted on the winning goal for the 7-4-1 Witches. Joey Caron scored off a Frost pass earlier and Matt Quimby saved six of nine shots.

For the 5-6-1 Warriors, Josh Nichols scored an unassisted goal and Mike Jacques made eight saves on 13 shots.

JV: Nokomis 1-0

Greenville 4, Valley 0

At Bingham, Jonah Lizotte scored three goals as the Lakers rolled past the Cavaliers.

Matt Knowlton scored a goal and assisted on another while David Whitman also picked up an assist. Gregory Aucoin made seven saves on nine shots for 9-3 Greenville.

Eric Hatfield stopped 10 of 19 shots for Valley.

Bucksport 2, Searsport 0

At Bucksport, Robbie Pushard converted an Adam Bourgon pass to help secure the win for the 1-9-1 Golden Bucks.

Ashton Gouraley scored off a pass from Bobby Williams and Trevor Stevens stopped seven of nine shots.

Marcus Quisenberry faced 27 shots and made 21 saves for 5-9 Searsport.

East Grand 4, Highview Chr. 2

At Charleston, Darius Parker scored two goals as the Vikings bested the Knights.

Tim Potter scored a goal and had two assists and Chris Irish added a goal for East Grand of Danforth. Irish also combined with James Crone to make 28 saves on 33 shots for the 6-7-1 Vikings.

Nick Waite scored two goals and Anthony Kneeland picked up an assist for 4-5 Highview Christian. Aaron Waite turned away 18 of 25 shots.

Presque Isle 2, Fort Kent 1

At Fort Kent, Kyle James scored a goal and had an assist as Presque Isle defeated Fort Kent.

Nick Robertson scored what would be the game-winner early in the second half unassisted while Brad Baker made nine saves on 17 shots for the 9-2 Wildcats.

Ethan Raymond scored with an assist from Shawn Levesque with 14 minutes remaining to narrow the lead to one while Dustin Nadeau stopped 10 of 14 shots for the 5-6-1 Warriors.

Shead 2, Jonesport-Beals 1

At Jonesport, Mike Bernard scored two goals, including the game-winner with 16:03 remaining, to lead 10-3 Shead to victory.

Rickey Kroll and Gerald Holmes picked up assists on the goals while Darren Constant stopped seven of eight shots.

Ben Durkee scored an unassisted goal to tie up the game in the first half. Ross Griffin finished with 11 saves on 15 shots for 2-7-2 Jonesport-Beals.

Field hockey

Foxcroft 8, Bangor 0

At Dover-Foxcroft, Emily Austin scored three goals and Amanda Howard tallied four assists as Foxcroft improved to 13-0.

Rolinda Mitchell added two goals while Harita Reddy had a goal and an assist. Tamlyn Frederick scored a goal for the Ponies while Megan Ryder needed to make no saves.

Bonnie Chase faced 45 shots for 2-10 Bangor and made 29 saves.

JV: Foxcroft 1-0

Dexter 3, Piscataquis 0

At Guilford, Meagan Fogarty had two goals and an assist to lead the unbeaten Tigers by Piscataquis.

For the 12-0 Tigers, Keri Patterson scored the other goal while Michia McCusick and Sarah Wyman each had an assist. Cindy Koscielny notched the shutout with three saves on three shots.

For the 5-6 Pirates, Amy Knowlton saved 17 of 23 shots.

JV: Dexter 1-0

Central 3, Orono 0

At Orono, Tiff Tilton saved all six shots she faced to notch a shutout and help lead Central of Corinth to the win.

Jody Harvey, Lisa Brown and Heather Lyford each scored a goal for the 10-2 Red Devils.

Jessie Newcomb and Ana Blagojevic combined to make 55 saves on 58 shots.

JV: Central 1-0

Old Town 2, Hampden 1

At Hampden, Amanda Littlefield scored both goals for Old Town to lead them to the win.

Emelie Richard made 17 saves on 18 shots for the Indians.

Sarah Peters scored unassisted for 5-7 Hampden while Caroline Samp stopped 19 of 21 shots.

JV: Hampden 3-1

Girls soccer

Lee 4, Katahdin 0

At Sherman Station, Shelby Pickering scored three goals and had an assist to help carry undefeated Lee past Katahdin.

Kristen Hersom added a goal for the 11-0 Pandas while Ashley Gifford didn’t need to make a save.

Jamie Green faced 23 shots and stopped 18 for 5-9 Katahdin.

Nokomis 4, Brewer 0

At Newport, Amy Preble scored two goals and had an assist to help carry the 5-5-1 Warriors past Brewer.

Kristina Gonzalez and Lindsey Welch each added goals for Nokomis while Beth Bragdon tallied two assists. Michelle Murray had an assist and Tia Beauregard faced nine shots and stopped six.

Katie Harris made 12 saves on 22 shots for 2-9-1 Brewer.

JV: 1-1

Greenville 2, Valley 0

At Greenville, Kahla Lander scored off a Diane Aucoin pass four minutes into the second half and Crystal Ferris added an unassisted goal with 4:29 left to give the Lakers the victory.

Bethaney Bartley made five saves on five shots for 7-4-1 Greenville.

For 3-9 Valley of Bingham, Loretta Fitzmaurie made 25 saves on 27 shots.

Hermon 4, Foxcroft 1

At Dover-Foxcroft, Jessie Wiggins scored three goals to help lead Hermon to victory.

Alyssa Petrello added a goal while Cassie White had two assists and Shana Dobbins stopped four of 10 shots for 8-3-1 Hermon.

Christina Kurzuis scored for 0-11-1 Foxcroft and Katie Walsh made eight saves on 19 shots.

Dexter 0, PVHS 0 (2OT)

At Dexter, Dexter’s Daphne Robichaud made 13 saves on 17 shots while Penobscot Valley of Howland’s Jenn Plourde rejected 18 of 24 shots.

Dexter is now 10-2-1 while PVHS is 2-8-2.

Ellsworth 0, Bucksport 0 (2OT)

At Ellsworth, Victoria Jones made 11 saves on 26 shots and an Elissa Gordon shot in the waning moments glanced off the crossbar as Ellsworth earned a tie with undefeated Bucksport.

Ellsworth is now 3-7-1 while Bucksport is 10-0-2.

Brittany Damon made four saves on six shots for the Bucks.

JV: Bucksport 2-1

Orono 1, MDI 0

At Orono, Olivia Alford scored the game’s only goal with 3:04 remaining.

Marie Lint faced 11 shots for the 4-6-1 Red Riots and stopped five.

Trina Smith made nine saves on 15 shots in net for 1-9 Mount Desert Island.

Schenck 3, Central 2

At East Millinocket, Kayla Hathaway’s penalty kick with 1:43 left gave the Schenck Wolverines the win over Central of Corinth.

Hathaway’s kick, which was awarded for a handball violation, sailed over the goalie into the top left corner. The other goals, both unassisted, came from Laura Davis and Jessica Day. Megan Carey saved four of six shots for Schenck.

Tawnya Crosby and Nicole Logue each scored for the Red Devils while Lindsay Mitchell added an assist. Nicole Daniel saved 17 of 23 shots.

East Grand 7, Highview Chr. 1

At Danforth, Allie McKay scored three goals to help lead 3-3-1 East Grand past Highview Christian.

Amanda Godley contributed with two goals while Marie Gilman scored two and added an assist. Mariah Marks and Chantel Parker each tallied an assist while Paula Osnoe and Amanda Godley combined for 14 saves on 25 shots.

Linda Pereira scored for 1-7 Highview Christian and Sherry Cooper faced 45 shots and stopped 23.
