If one cannot afford a Lincoln, one drives a Ford. We do not expect the government to force Ford to sell us a Lincoln at the same price as a Ford. The same should apply to the drug industry.

My doctor prescribed a new drug for me; he gave me two prescriptions telling me to get the cheaper one. One was $179 for a 30-day supply and the other would be $121. I said, “Keep them,” and left the store. I can take an over-the-counter drug for $14 per month and since I have no insurance coverage for drugs this is what I will have to do – but I won’t whine to the government that I should be entitled to get it cheaper.

New designer drugs are in the same category as anything else new and expensive: if you can’t afford it, don’t buy it. Private business should not be forced by the government to sell their products at any price except what they deem fit.
