VANCEBORO – The man whose car crashed and burned Wednesday near the U.S.-Canadian border has been identified as Herbert Pomeroy, 85, of Vanceboro.
Pomeroy was taken to a hospital in McAdam, New Brunswick, by ambulance and pronounced dead. The cause of the death still was under investigation, the Maine State Police said Thursday.
Authorities were called to the accident near the intersection of High and First streets, about a half-mile from the U.S.-Canadian border, at 4:37 p.m. Wednesday
Pomeroy’s vehicle went off the road, crossed a field and vaulted over a 25-foot embankment and landed at the bottom, nose first. The car came to rest on its wheels. At some point after impact, the car caught on fire, which was extinguished by the Vanceboro Fire Department.
