WHITEFIELD – An 81-year-old woman was killed Tuesday after her car struck a utility truck.

Police said Jane Hellegers died Tuesday afternoon after her car failed to stop at the intersection of Main Street and Somerville Road in Coopers Mills and crashed into the truck.

Police said Hellegers was driving to Erskine Academy in China, where she planned to watch her granddaughter’s last field hockey game of the season.
