CLINTON, N.Y. – Brian Durant returned a punt 50 yards for a touchdown and Bowdoin went on to beat Hamilton 28-14 Saturday in college football action.
In the third quarter, Durant caught the punt at midfield, weaved through defenders and broke up the sideline for the score. Justin Hardison ran for the two-point conversion and a 21-7 lead for the Polar Bears (1-3).
Rob Patchett led Bowdoin with 167 yards rushing on 30 carries, including a 3-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter. Matt Boyd scored on two short runs in the first half, capping a pair of drives.
Amherst 14, Colby 0
AMHERST, Mass. – Fletcher Ladd ran for 214 yards and a touchdown and J.P. Zito had a 67-yard touchdown catch as Amherst defeated Colby.
A downpour meant the game started off as a rushing contest. Colby running back Aaron Stepka ran on 16 of his team’s first 17 plays, and finished with 172 yards.
Wayne Harrington and Mike Moran each had 15 tackles for Colby.
Wesleyan 20, Bates 17
LEWISTON – Pat Curran ran 2 yards for a touchdown early in the third quarter to break a deadlock and Wesleyan topped Bates.
Nat Carr kicked a 25-yard field goal early in the fourth quarter to pull Bates (0-4, 0-4 NESCAC) within three, but he missed a 24-yarder with 5:38 left that would have tied the score.
Curran’s run capped an eight-play, 71-yard drive for Wesleyan (3-1, 2-1).
Wesleyan scored 1:25 into the game when Danny Ackil intercepted Kane Jankoski’s pass and ran 16 yards for a TD.
But Jankoski came back with a 15-yard scoring pass to Owen Miehe and then threw 51 yards to Matt Orlando for a 14-7 lead.
Bridgewater State 21, MMA 3
CASTINE – Andrew Brems rushed for 119 yards and one touchdown on 25 carries and Adam Camobreco threw two scoring passes to lead Bridgewater State over Maine Maritime.
B.J. Dunlap kicked a 20-yard field goal in the third quarter for the Mariners (0-5, 0-2).
