FORT FAIRFIELD – A quick-moving fire started by runaway cooking flames destroyed a storage shed before firefighters could put it out Saturday.

No one was injured.

Firefighters were called just before noon to the Grant Road home of Dave and Sandra Hanscom. A small cooking fire, located about 10 feet from the 20-by-20-foot backyard storage shed, got away from the residents and ignited the structure.

Assistant Fire Chief Doug Clifford said he had no idea of the damage costs or of possible insurance coverage.

The storage shed had bicycles and building materials inside. Everything was destroyed.

Nine firefighters were at the scene for a more than one hour.
