Among the roadside election signs, there is one that I find misleading – “Re-elect Richardson for Sheriff.”

To me, re-elect means that an incumbent is running for the office that he or she currently holds. This is not the case for Richardson. True, he was the sheriff – many years ago – but he is not the incumbent.

Richardson should run on his own merits and not try to give voters the impression that he has been the sheriff right along.
