Bathtime treat
If holiday desserts go straight to your thighs, give Philosophy’s Pumpkin Pie a try. This way, you can rub it on (it’s a shower gel) and it won’t stick – unlike its edible counterparts. It smells good enough to eat, yet you can use it even if you’re on a holiday diet, and who isn’t? It’s available by calling (800) 568-3151 or online at www.philosophy.com.
Witch way
If you’d like to shake up your Halloween routine, you can spend a spirited Saturday in South Paris at the McLaughlin Foundation Garden and Horticultural Center. The center’s “kitchen coven” will hold Witches’ Brew, a spirited high tea, from noon to 6 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 26. The event costs $12 per person. For reservations or directions, call 743-8820 or visit www.mclaughlingarden.org.
Cran-tastic
Looking for the next chic drink? Try a White Cosmo, which uses white cranberry juice in place of red to keep up with the fashion world’s white-on-white theme. It tastes like the original, but it looks like a prettier martini, especially when it’s garnished with a swizzle stick of fresh cranberries. To make one, combine 5 ounces Ocean Spray white cranberry juice cocktail, 2 ounces citrus-flavored vodka, and 1/2 ounce sweetened lime juice in a shaker with ice. Pour into a martini glass and garnish with a twist of lime and fresh white or red cranberries.
