MADAWASKA – What if you had a town meeting and nobody came?

That’s basically the way it was at Madawaska on Tuesday night. There was a special town meeting to buy a pickup truck and to pay the overage on a wastewater construction project.

Eleven people, which included the five-person Board of Selectmen, town clerk, ballot clerks and the police chief, approved both measures in under six minutes.

The pickup truck for the recreation department was approved at $22,800. The money will come from the town’s reserve fund. The overage on the 2001 wastewater project on East Main Street was set at $14,000. The money will come from a wastewater department reserve fund.
