MOUNT DESERT – Belfast needed only two quarters to roll up a big chunk of offense en route to a 39-0 high school football victory over the Mount Desert Island Trojans Friday night.

Jeff Parenteau paced Belfast with 11 carries for 93 yards in a game that ended after two quarters due to a failure in the lighting system.

Matt Welch totaled 80 yards on seven carries for the Lions while quarterback John Lear had seven carries for 76 yards and completed two passes for 18 yards.

David Zabala carried the ball seven times and earned 75 yards for Mount Desert Island while Zach Carney made 12 tackles.

Stearns 50, John Bapst 0

At Cameron Stadium in Bangor, Derek DiFrederico rushed for two touchdown and passed for two more as Stearns of Millinocket rolled past John Bapst.

DiFrederico hooked up with Matt Barnett and Kevin McLaughin for scoring strikes.

Barnett also ran for two touchdowns and Ian Johnson added another on the ground for 4-3 Stearns.

John Bapst fell to 0-7.

Foxcroft 41, MCI 0

At Dover-Foxcroft, Josh Sands rushed for three touchdowns Friday night as the Foxcroft Academy Ponies remained unbeaten with a 41-0 LTC Class C football victory over Maine Central Institute of Pittsfield at Oakes Field.

Foxcroft Academy jumped out to a 7-0 lead as Sands dived into the end zone from one yard out.

MCI lost its momentum when it lost quarterback Ryan Bennett in the first quarter due to a leg injury when he attempted to make a tackle. Bennett had completed two of three passing attempts for 36 yards before he was injured.

Danny White added a 50-yard touchdown run to lead the way for a 15-point second quarter for the Ponies. White carried the ball seven times for 88 yards.

Quarterback Josh Withee completed a 1-yard touchdown pass to Brandon Hall for a 20-0 lead and Withee’s pass to Lincoln Robinson made it 22-0. Sands added two touchdown runs of three yards each and finished with 10 carries for 63 yards. Withee wound up completing nine of 16 attempts for 135 yards.

Max Kennedy finished off the scoring with a 3-yard run. Robinson carried the ball six times for 40 yards to round out the Pony Express triple threat. Trey Merrill led the Foxcroft defense with eight tackles and Ryan McNaulty added seven tackles.

Marty Quint led the MCI offense with 15 carries for 38 yards. Tyson Quint, who replaced Bennett at quarterback, did not complete a pass but did rush 21 times for 22 yards. Marty Quint made nine tackles.

At Rockland, Mike Curtis had six touchdowns and completed three two-point conversions to lead the Tigers to the win with 318 yards and 42 points on 22 carries, pushing his season rushing total to more than 1,100 yards.

John Coppola completed two conversion passes to Austin Podziewski for 2-5 Rockland.

Quarterback Brandon Paxton had 22 pass attempts for 0-7 Traip and threw for a total of 92 yards.

Boys soccer

Bucksport 5, Nokomis 4

At Bucksport, led by two goals and three assists from Adam Bourgon, the Class B Golden Bucks closed their regular season by upsetting Class A Nokomis.

Nokomis got an early 3-0 lead with a pair of goals from Matt Thornton and one goal from David Buzanoski, but Bucksport responded with two goals each from Caleb Grindle and Bourgon and a score by Josh Pelletier. Chris Davis added an assist for Bucksport.

Trevor Stevens had five saves for 3-10-1 Bucksport, which finished its season 3-1-1 after starting out 0-9.

Thornton later scored his third goal for 6-7-1 Nokomis of Newport. Erik Gardiner and Dean Ouellette each had an assist and Mike Jacques made two saves.

Ellsworth 2, George Stevens 0

At Blue Hill, after losing their first meeting of the season at home, Ellsworth got its revenge with a win on George Stevens’ home field.

Noah Jordan scored on a Matt Wood assist and Jensen Rich notched a goal on a pass from Seth Mayo to lead Ellsworth. Noah Brown made four saves on nine shots for 10-3-1 Ellsworth.

James Friend registered 16 saves on 25 shots for 9-3-2 George Stevens Academy.

Both teams will meet again in a scrimmage next week to warm up for the playoffs.

MDI 4, Hermon 1

At Hermon, Richard Hilliard scored two goals as Mount Desert Island secured a victory in its final game of the regular season.

Kyle Jones and Mike Bucklin also scored for the 7-6-1 Trojans. Adam Thurston made nine saves on 12 shots.

James Applebee scored for Hermon as his team closed out the regular season at 2-9-3. Phil Cayford and Josiah Curtis combined to stop three of 10 shots for the Hawks.

Fort Kent 4, Houlton 0

At Houlton, James Raymond scored three goals in the second half and had an assist to help carry 6-7-1 Fort Kent past Houlton.

Ryan Nadeau contributed a goal while Shaun Levesque and Ethan Raymond recorded assists. Dustin Nadeau stopped 10 of 10 shots.

Erik O’Connell faced 17 shots and made 14 saves for 1-7-6 Houlton.

Girls soccer

Greenville 8, Windham Chr. 0

At Windham, seven Lakers scored at least one goal as Greenville improved to 8-4-1.

Crystal Ferris scored two goals for the Lakers, while Patti Weingart, Kahla Lander, Martha Richardson, Sarah Hanson, Kristen Sutherland and Diane Aucoin netted one apiece. Kristie Richardson and Rica Breton added an assist each.

Bethany Bartley made four saves on six shots.

Laura Dodge and Bree Reynolds combined for 20 saves on 34 shots for 5-6 Windham Christian.

Washington Acad. 1, Highview 0

At Charleston, Stephanie Farren was credited with a goal when a Highview Christian Academy player directed it into her own net during a goalmouth scramble with 26 seconds left in the first half.

Meghann Rose made 19 saves on 30 shots for 2-10 Washington Academy.

Danielle Day and Sherrie Cooper combined for nine saves on 17 shots for 1-10 Highview Christian.

Old Town 2, MDI 0

At Old Town, Hannah Marquis set up both goals as the Indians closed the regular season with a victory.

Jen Higgins scored the first goal for 6-6-2 Old Town and Katie Bergeron added an insurance goal. Whitney Carey earned the shutout by making 11 saves on 13 shots.

Trina Smith had 14 saves on 22 shots for 1-13 Mount Desert Island.

Oxford Hills 2, Skowhegan 0

At South Paris, Vikings goalie Mary Darcy’s seventh shutout of the season helped Oxford Hills improve to 9-3.

McKayla Bell scored twice, both assisted by Danielle Farrar. The Vikings allowed only one goal in their final six games. Darcy stopped all five shots she faced.

Carmen Ballard stopped seven of the nine shots she faced for 6-4-2 Skowhegan.
