ORONO – The University of New Hampshire spoiled the occasion Friday night, defeating UMaine 3-1 in an America East volleyball match played in front of 578 fans at Memorial Gym.
The Wildcats emerged victorious, edging the Black Bears 30-26, 30-23, 26-30, 30-25 with one of the largest volleyball crowds in UMaine history looking on at “The Pit.”
Alyson Coler led 10-13 New Hampshire with 22 kills and 14 digs, while Lan Dai registered 13 kills and 11 digs. Anne Davis piled up 48 assists and Erin Ludwig added 10 kills for the Wildcats, now 3-1 in league play.
Kaili Jordan and Claire Poliquin headed a list of five UMaine players with double-figure kills, posting 14 each. Leah Guidinger provided 13 kills and 11 assists, Lori Maloney contributed 10 kills and 11 digs and Carmen Gabrielle finished with 10 kills and 43 assists.
The Bears slipped to 6-16 overall, 0-3 in America East. They play host to Northeastern Sunday at 12:30 p.m.
