GARDINER – A local couple in their 80s died after an accident on Route 201 during the weekend. Police said Calvin Alexander, 83, his 84-year-old wife, Civilla, both died at Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston several hours after the accident Saturday morning.

GARDINER – A local couple in their 80s died after an accident on Route 201 during the weekend.

Police said Calvin Alexander, 83, his 84-year-old wife, Civilla, both died at Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston several hours after the accident Saturday morning.

Calvin Alexander was driving a pickup truck, which struck a station wagon as he tried to turn onto the busy highway.

The driver of the station wagon, James Decker, 44, of Bowdoin, was treated at MaineGeneral Medical Center in Augusta and released.

Calvin Alexander was taken to the Lewiston hospital by emergency helicopter and his wife was taken there by ambulance. They died within a couple of hours of each other.
