Ironman Mainers excel

KAILUA-KONA, Hawaii – Tim DeBoom of Lyons, Colo., became the first man to repeat as Ironman Triathlon World Champion since 1993 with an overall time of eight hours, 29 minutes, 56 seconds after completing the swimming, cycling, and running portions of the competition. DeBoom came from behind to hold off two-time champion Peter Reid of Canada.

Two Mainers finished among the top 300 overall as Rob Smith of Cape Elizabeth was 273rd and Machias’ Robert Hepler Jr., was 295th. Smith (10:14:22) finished 25th in the men’s, ages 40-44 division. Hepler was 27th in the same division with a time of 10:18:28.
