Maine Veterans for Peace is planning its own reception for President Bush during his visit to Bangor International Airport today.

The veterans group, one of 50 chapters of the national organization, believes the United States must cease functioning unilaterally and must become a responsible member of the community of nations, and opposes any military action against Iraq, said Tom Sturdevant, Maine VFP president.

Bush is due to arrive at Bangor International Airport in the early afternoon on Tuesday, and the Maine VFP Chapter will sponsor a nonviolent rally to begin at 11:30. Co-sponsors for the demonstration will include the Peace and Justice Center of Eastern Maine, Peninsula Peace and Justice, Island Peace and Justice, and PICA (Peace through Inter-American Community Action).

For more information, contact the Peace and Justice Center of Eastern Maine at 942-9343.
