BREWSTER, Mass. – The Husson College golf team finished fifth at the New England Intercollegiate Golf Association Championships played Monday and Tuesday at The Captains Golf Course.

Husson of Bangor shot a team total of 627, 51 over par for the 36-hole event, winning the Division III title while beating all Division II teams as well.

Rhode Island won the tournament with a total of 600, 24 shots over par. The University of Vermont’s Thomas Ross won the individual title after a one-hole playoff with Bryant College’s Jason Clary. The pair had a total of 148 after two rounds.

Husson’s Ross McGee topped the team individually, firing rounds of 74 and 78 for an 8-over-par total of 152 and finished in a tie for 11th place.

The Braves’ Shane Ross finished in a tie for 24th with rounds of 77 and 78 for a 155, Corey Pion tied for 40th after shooting 78 and 80, and Corey Poulin tied for 66th with rounds of 78 and 84 for a 162. Joe Finemore had rounds of 81 and 84 for a total of 165 and finished in a tie for 86th.

Saint Joseph’s College of Standish placed 27th in the 46-team field. The Monks finished with a 666 total.

Jim Ross led the Monks with rounds of 81 and 80 for a 161 total and finished tied for 55th.

St. Joseph’s James Cilley, John Destino, and Chuck Waterman all shot 169 and tied for 115th place.

The University of Southern Maine placed 33rd in the team standings with a 683 total. Pat Otto was the Huskies’ top finisher after shooting 83 and 81 for a 164 total and a tie for 80th place.

Bob Herzig finished in a tie for 142nd with rounds of 89 and 83, while Jon Spinney shot 173 to finish in a tie for 148th and Bill Slaiding and Ashley Fifield tied for 183rd with 178 totals.

Bates College of Lewiston did not finish the tournament after shooting a team total of 352 for the first round.

Women’s soccer

UM-Farmington 5, Thomas 0

At Waterville, Richelle Dube scored two goals to propel the Beavers.

Shannon Mailhot scored a goal an added an assist. Megan Woodcock and Stephanie Hiller each scored a goal. Lindsay Tatarczak added an assist. Alyson Pointbriand made two saves for 12-1-1 University of Maine-Farmington.

Jessie Craft made 20 saves on 31 shots for 3-11-1 Thomas College.

Plymouth State 4, So. Maine 2

At Plymouth, N.H., Sandra Petlick scored a goal and added an assist for the Panthers.

Holly Levesque, Katie West, and Meagen Leenig each scored a goal. Beth Dyer made five saves on nine shots for 4-9 Plymouth State.

Elise Frank and Jenny Boucher scored for the Huskies. Eva Hanson and Jamyn Mooney posted assists. Marcy Ansley made five saves on 12 shots for 4-10 University of Southern Maine of Gorham.

Field hockey

Colby 4, St. Joseph’s 0

At Windham, Wendy Bonner scored two goals and Shelley Hughes made two assists to give the Mules the win.

Brittney Lazar and Kim Betz each scored a goal and Lyndsay Peters and Sari Gilbert each had an assist.

Carrie Morin made three saves for 8-4 Colby of Waterville.

Men’s soccer

Plymouth State 4, USM 0

At Gorham, Chipe Culum, Troy Silva, Justin Wengell and Rob Ball each scored a goal for Panthers.

Wengell, Silva, Sal Friello, Michael Cantelli, Nick Lebera, and Brad Wyman all had an assist. Brad Wilby made one save on four shots 6-5-2 Plymouth State (N.H.).

Chris Willard and Dan Hills combined to make three saves on 10 shots for 3-9-3 University of Southern Maine.
