WATERVILLE – Justin Nichols’ goal with 2:36 remaining in the game gave the No. 10 Nokomis Warriors a 3-2 schoolboy soccer prelim win over the No. 7 Waterville Panthers Tuesday. Nichols scored off a cross from Matt Thornton, who had two assists in the game.

WATERVILLE – Justin Nichols’ goal with 2:36 remaining in the game gave the No. 10 Nokomis Warriors a 3-2 schoolboy soccer prelim win over the No. 7 Waterville Panthers Tuesday.

Nichols scored off a cross from Matt Thornton, who had two assists in the game.

Nokomis of Newport had fallen behind 2-0 before staging a second-half comeback on goals by Chris Dunlop and David Sacks. Mike Jacques made 15 saves on 26 shots for the 7-7-1 Warriors.

Art Turmelle and Micah Plaisted scored goals for 8-5 Waterville. Joe Spofford picked up a pair of assists and B.J. Lamare made seven saves on nine shots.

Boys soccer

Class A

Messalonskee 1, Brewer 0

At Brewer, Jason Wentworth scored the game-winning goal off of a Chris Brink assist with 34:12 remaining in the game to give the No. 9 Eagles the win.

Jacob Burwood made eight saves on 11 shots for 7-4-2 Messalonskee of Oakland.

Matt Quimby stopped three of six shots for the No. 8 Witches, who finished at 8-5-2.

Hampden 3, Cony 2

At Augusta, Alex Wiken scored the game-winning goal off a Nattapong Kongsuriya assist with 20 minutes left in the game as the No. 11 Broncos upset the No. 6 Rams.

Eric Kelmenson scored two first-half goals for 6-9 Hampden. Kongsuriya and Adam Standley each added an assist. Ken Mayo made six saves on 14 shots.

Eddie Weddington scored twice for 9-4 Cony, including a goal that tied the game off a Chase Roberge assist 8:48 into the second half. Ryan Conrad made five saves on eight shots.

Class B

Belfast 2, Caribou 0

At Caribou, Robert Johnson scored the game’s first goal with 13:52 left in the game as the No. 9 Lions knocked off the No. 8 Vikings.

John Boynton added an insurance goal off a Bobby Tarpley assist with 2:05 left. Chris Abbott made 12 saves on 14 shots for 8-6-1 Belfast.

Micah Maurio blocked nine of 13 shots for 4-8-1 Caribou.

Fort Kent 2, Bucksport 0

At Fort Kent, Ethan Raymond scored the winning goal, unassisted, at the 17-minute mark of the first half for the Warriors.

Travis Duval scored off a J.J. Pinette assist with 12:40 left in the game. Dustin Nadeau made four saves on six shots for No. 6 Fort Kent (7-7-1).

Trevor Stevens made seven saves on 15 shots for No. 11 Bucksport (3-11-1).

Class C

Sumner 2, Searsport 1 (3OT)

At East Sullivan, Will Seyffer scored with an assist from Jeff Malloy four minutes into the third overtime to give the eighth-seeded Tigers the victory.

Christian Knoehler scored the game’s first goal on a penalty kick at 4:31 into the first half. Carlos Velencia made 17 saves on 19 shots for 6-6-3 Sumner.

Ivan Lor scored the game-tying goal with 40 seconds remaining in the second half to send the game into overtime for No. 9 Searsport. Elijah Brazier stopped 23 of 42 shots for 5-10 Searsport.

Class D

Shead 1, Ashland 0

At Eastport, Gerald Holmes scored the game’s only goal off an assist from Ricky Kroll with 27:44 left in the first half, giving the eighth-seeded Tigers the victory.

Darrin Constant made seven saves on 14 shots to post the shutout for 12-3 Shead.

Jeremy Baker came up with eight saves on 16 shots for No. 9 Ashland, which wound up 7-7-1.

Fort Fairfield 16, Highview Chr. 1

At Fort Fairfield, Mickey Browning scored five goals and assisted on two to power No. 2 Fort Fairfield past No. 15 Highview Christian of Charleston.

Josh Turner added two goals and two assists for the 14-1 winners. Jesse Sayers and Ryan Helstrom each chipped in with two goals while Aaron Kenneson, Kris Osgood, Corey Washington and Bill Scull had a goal apiece.

Tyler Bernaiche and Ryan Clark combined to make three saves on nine shots.

Aaron Waite scored off a Nick Waite pass for 5-7 Highview Christian of Charleston. Aaron Waite and Devin Philbrick combined for 10 saves on 39 shots.

Bangor Christian 3, Limestone 2

At Bangor, Ben Sobey’s goal off a Greg Patterson pass with 6:11 left in the game gave the No. 7 Patriots the win over the No. 10 Eagles.

Patterson also scored off an Anthony Cole assist and Josh Griffin scored off an Andy Phinney pass. Aaron Wilson made two saves on 10 shots for the 7-3-3 winners.

Dale Swanton scored one goal and assisted on Neil Lettenber’s goal that tied the game at 2-2 with 11:41 left. Jake Manner made seven saves on 21 shots for 7-7-1 Limestone.

So. Aroostook 2, C. Aroostook 1

At Dyer Brook, senior striker Corey Edkins scored both goals and Jeff Boutilier made 15 saves on 24 shots as fifth-seeded Southern Aroostook upended No. 12 Central Aroostook of Mars Hill.

Edkins converted a Mike Lopez pass for the only goal of the first half and then scored what proved to be the game-winner, unassisted, two minutes into the second half for 11-2-2 Southern Aroostook.

Bryan Grew scored off a rebound after Boutilier had stopped a penalty kick and follow-up shot. Pat Walsh received an assist.

Adam Crew made 11 saves on 28 shots for 4-9-2 Central Aroostook.

Van Buren 2, Katahdin 0

At Van Buren, the No. 3 Crusaders struck for two goals a minute apart with 20 minutes left in the first half to beat the No. 14 Cougars of Sherman Station.

Tyler Hews converted an indirect kick from Louiz Sodra and Jeremy Chasse scored off a Jesse Parent pass for 11-3-1 Van Buren. Sean Violette made one save on one shot.

For 2-10-2 Katahdin, Frank Grass made eight saves on 19 shots.

Washburn 3, East Grand 1

At Washburn, Isaac Carney scored three goals to lead the No. 4 Beavers past the No. 13 Vikings.

Dan Harris and Adam Worsley assisted on two of the goals and Carney scored on a direct kick from 25 yards that deflected off the crossbar, off East Grand goalie Chris Irish and into the goal.

Zach Bird made two saves on four shots in his first game in goal for 10-2-3 Washburn.

Emmett Mailman scored off a Darius Parker assist and Irish turned away 17 of 24 shots for 6-8-1 East Grand of Danforth.

Greenville 2, DI-Stonington 1

At Greenville, Jonah Lizotte’s goal off a Rory Owens pass with 15:44 left provided the No. 6 Lakers with the winning margin over the No. 11 Deer Isle-Stonington Mariners..

Lizotte’s goal gave the Lakers a 2-0 lead as Evan Hasker came back with an unassisted goal with 10:31 left for DI-S.

Owens scored an unassisted goal 4:30 into the game for 11-4 Greenville and Gregory Aucoin finished with 10 saves on 11 shots.

Chris Gray made 13 saves on 20 shots for the 4-8-3 Mariners.

Field hockey

Winthrop 2, Stearns 1 (OT)

At Winthrop, Nicole Emery scored the game-winning goal off a Kate Krall assist with 1:45 left in overtime for the No. 2 Ramblers.

Emily White tied the game for 13-1-1 Winthrop with 7:20 left in the first half off a Krall assist. Tabitha Therrien made six saves on 10 shots.

Casey Popp knocked in a goal 1:30 into the first half for the No. 7 Minutemen of Millinocket (7-8). Jessica Osborne and Holly Franck assisted on Popp’s goal. Julie Emery stopped 10 of 22 shots.

Winslow 2, MCI 1

At Winslow, Beth LaFountain scored the game-winning goal off of a Nikki Peters assist with 12:01 left in the first half for the second-ranked Black Raiders.

Mary Lambert added an insurance goal with 10:30 left in the game for 13-1-1 Winslow and Cierra Byrnes made eight saves on nine shots.

Sara Frost scored off a Mackie Sutherland assist with 1:25 left in the game to bring the No. 10 Huskies within one. Tara Weeman stopped eight of 10 shots for the Huskies, who finished at 6-9-1.
