A little less than a year ago, I approached Anita Haskell and asked her to introduce a bill on my behalf, LD 2165. I was less than hopeful for any success, partly because I knew the time for submitting bills had passed, and partly because I knew that what I was asking would be unpopular, at best, for any legislator to support. None of this mattered to Anita. She submitted it anyway, and to my surprise, persuaded the committee to accept it as well.
Anita could have said “no” when I asked for her help, but she didn’t do that either. Instead, she lobbied tirelessly for my cause in Augusta. In the end, and because of her efforts, my bill received unanimous support from the Committee on Legal and Veterans Affairs and near unanimous support in the House and Senate.
Anita Haskell is a breath of fresh air. She knew that I came from a Democratic family and that didn’t matter. She represents all that any of us could hope for in a politician and I encourage every citizen of District 137 to vote in her favor.
