HOULTON -Jessie Wiggin scored the go-ahead goal with 1:07 left in the first half Wednesday as 10th-seeded Hermon knocked off No. 7 Houlton 2-0 in a Class B preliminary round game.

Gillian Miller added an insurance goal off a Jessie Wiggin assist 3:41 into the second half. Shannon Wiggin stopped eight of nine shots for 9-4-2 Hermon.

Anna Lenentine made seven saves on 10 shots for 5-9-1 Houlton.

Class B

Old Town 3, Mount View 2

At Old Town, Katie Bergeron tallied a goal and an assist as the No. 8 Indians held off the No. 9 Mustangs.

Hannah Marquis and Erin Reardon notched a goal each for 7-6-2 Old Town. Whitney Carey made 10 saves on 18 shots.

Molly Houser scored off a direct kick and assisted on a goal by Amy Delano for 5-10 Mount View of Thorndike. Megan Reymayer made 16 saves on 22 shots.

Camden Hills 2, John Bapst 0

At Camden, Caitlin Brown scored one goal and assisted on another to lead the Camden Hills Windjammers past John Bapst of Bangor.

Nesli Orhon scored the second goal and Tana Scott assisted on the first for the 9-5-1 ‘Jammers. Olivia Mitchell saved all seven shots for her second straight shutout and fourth of the season.

For the 5-10 Crusaders, Rebecca Stevens saved 10 of 12 shots.

Class D

Bangor Chr. 1, Fort Fairfield 0

At Bangor, Monique Veilleux tallied the game-winner with 17 minutes to play in the second half on a shot from just inside the left corner of the 18-yard line to power the No. 8 Patriots.

Amber Leathers was credited with the assist for 6-5-2 Bangor Christian. Pam Reitsma made two saves on four shots.

Danielle Searles stopped eight out of 12 shots for the No. 9 Tigers, who finish at 3-10-2.

Katahdin 1, Greenville 0

At Greenville, Krystle McMoarn scored the game-winning goal on a corner kick with 9:22 left as the No. 12 Cougars knocked off the No. 5 Lakers.

Jayme Green stopped all 16 shots that she faced for 6-10 Katahdin of Sherman Station.

Bethany Bartley made 11 saves on 12 shots for 9-5-1 Greenville.

Limestone 4, Shead 0

At Limestone, Ashley Brooker collected three goals plus an assist as the No. 7 Eagles rolled past No. 10 Shead.

Jacinda St. Pierre added a goal and Lindsey Beaulieu an assist for 9-5-1 Limestone. Nikki Michaud stopped nine out of 10 shots to earn the shutout.

For the 7-7-1 Tigerettes of Eastport, Roliza DeWitt rejected five out of 10 shots.

Ashland 2, Cen. Aroostook 0

At Mars Hill, Caitlin Sherman and Erica Martin scored unassisted goals in the first half to propel the No. 11 Hornets to the upset win over No. 6 Central Aroostook.

Ashley Nemer blocked 11 out of 16 shots for 6-8-1 Ashland.

Brittany Lundeen countered with a 13-for-17 effort for the 9-5 Panthers.

Class A

Presque Isle 5, Lawrence 0

At Presque Isle, five players notched a goal apiece to lead the No. 5 Wildcats.

Billi Blanchard, Natasha Deschene and Katie Delong scored in the first half while Kylin Smith and Stephanie Holton scored in the second. Marigan Bishop dished out three first-half assists for 10-4-1 Presque Isle, and Nicole James added another.

Melissa DeMerchant and Jessica Price combined for three saves on four shots.

Jessie Lindie rejected 19 of 28 shots for the No. 12 Bulldogs of Fairfield (4-7-2).

Messalonskee 2, Skowhegan 1

At Skowhegan, Beth Brown, the second kicker for the No. 9 Eagles of Oakland, finally ended a three-hour marathon that included four overtime periods and a session of penalty kicks.

Chelsea Thibeault scored a dramatic goal off a Casey Pawlick pass. During a scramble in front of the net, Pawlick tapped the ball, and got just enough on it to sneak it by Skowhegan goalkeeper Carmen Ballard. Thibeault flew over her and knocked it home.

Megan Goodrow made nine saves on 10 shots for 7-6 Messalonskee of Oakland.

Cassie Martell scored off a corner kick for the eighth-ranked Indians, who finish up at 6-5-2. Ballard made 18 saves on 24 shots.

Field hockey

Class C

Piscataquis 2, Central 1 (OT)

At Guilford, sophomore forward Tedianne Galuski stole the ball, raced into the circle, cut from right to left and then fired a shot inside the far corner with 2:31 left in overtime to lift fourth-seeded Piscataquis past No. 5 Central of Corinth.

It was the third 2-1 overtime game between the two teams this season. The home team won all three.

Galuski’s goal was her sixth of the season and second of the game. She converted a Karole-Anne Emery pass with 13:15 left to tie it.

Central’s Lisa Brown had finished off a Jenny Rollins pass to break a scoreless tie 7:18 earlier.

Amy Knowlton made 12 saves for 8-7 PCHS while Jenna Dauphinee had four stops for Central, which finished at 11-4.

Dexter 5, Livermore Falls 0

At Dexter, sophomore Nikki Chapman scored three goals as the No. 1 Tigers rolled to their 15th victory.

Meagan Fogarty tallied a goal and had two assists. Brittany Veazie added a goal and Sarah Wyman notched two assists. Cindy Koscielny did not have to make a save for 15-0 Dexter.

Casey Jaudely made 35 saves on 52 shots for the 6-7-2 Andies.

Class A

Mount Ararat 3, Nokomis 1

At Topsham, Heather Rockley, Cally Ellis and Emily Dumont scored first-half goals to lead the fourth-seeded Eagles to victory.

Kate Lamoreau made seven saves on eight shots for 10-5 Mount Ararat.

Michelle Barden scored on a Gill Snow assist for No. 5 Nokomis of Newport, which wound up 7-7-1. Brandi Davis made seven saves on 10 shots.

Skowhegan 6, Brunswick 1

At Skowhegan, Ramie Merrill and Megan Bedard each scored two goals to lead the top-ranked, unbeaten Indians past No. 8 Brunswick.

Jessie Corson and Jess Dorman notched a goal each for 14-0-1 Skowhegan.

Danielle Zimmerman tallied a goal for the 6-10 Dragons.

During this busy sports season, the NEWS asks that managers and coaches for the home teams promptly report the games. Games can be reported starting at 5 p.m. on Monday through Friday and 3 p.m. on Sundays. Games can not be reported on Saturday.
