MACHIAS – Geoffrey Godbey, a nationally recognized expert on leisure, recreation and tourism, will speak during a special Machias Bay Area Chamber of Commerce breakfast at 8 a.m. Friday, Oct. 25, at the Blue Bird Ranch restaurant.

Godbey is also the featured speaker tonight in the Libra Distinguished Lecture Series at the University of Maine at Machias. That speech will be at 5:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 24, at the Performing Arts Center.

Godbey is a professor at the Pennsylvania State University School of Hotel, Restaurant and Recreation Management. He has written articles for such magazines as American Demographics, Public Opinion, Prevention, and Modern Maturity.

Godbey recently conducted research on the future use of forests for recreation, the use of local recreation and park services by the elderly, and the relations between health and use of leisure time.

The public is invited to attend Friday’s Chamber buffet breakfast and talk. The breakfast is $6 for Chamber members and $7 for nonmembers. Call 255-8601 for reservations.
