Erratic driver attracts officer going to work

WALDOBORO – A police sergeant on his way to work Wednesday noticed an erratic driver and called for an on-duty officer, who charged the driver with operating under the influence of intoxicants.

Paul Griffin, 56, of Waldoboro was charged with operating under the influence after being taken to Lincoln County Jail in Wiscasset, Waldoboro police Officer Lance J. Mitchell said.

Sgt. Leigh Abbott had spotted the driver, Mitchell said, while heading to work. Griffin was stopped at 3:50 p.m. on Winslow Mills Road.

According to a jail officer, Griffin was released on $1,000 unsecured bail and is scheduled to appear Wednesday, Dec. 18, in Wiscasset District Court.
