WATERVILLE – A single-engine airplane flipped over in high winds Tuesday as it landed at the municipal airport.

The pilot was not injured. Damage to the Cessna 185 was estimated at $25,000.

Doug Young, 50, who vacations in Oakland, said crosswinds caught his plane as he was landing at Robert A. LaFleur Municipal Airport.

Capt. David Lafountain of the Waterville Fire Department said the winds caused the plane’s tail to cartwheel over the nose.

The plane landed upside down.

A crane was used to pull the plane into the air and right it onto the runway.
