ALBANY, N.Y. – Maureen McHugh, a freshman from Scarborough, scored her first collegiate goal off a rebound as the University of Maine women’s soccer team tipped Albany 1-0 Thursday.

McHugh got an assist from Annie Hamel as the Black Bears improved to 6-7-1 overall, and 2-3-1 in America East.

Naomi Welsh needed to make only one save against four shots for Maine.

Beth Spinelli had nine saves on 16 shots for the Great Danes (4-12-1, 1-5).

Colby 4, U-New England 2

At Waterville, Christine O’Donnell tallied three goals to power the White Mules.

Stephanie Hicks also registered a goal for 5-7 Colby, and Kaitlin Herliny, Julie Brown, and Lauren Gremelspacher picked up an assist each. Elizabeth Riley made five saves on 13 shots.

Krissy Forman and Kerry Weber each had an unassisted goal for the 5-9 Nor’Easters of Biddeford. Jayne Tarkleson stopped eight out of 28 shots.
