ELLSWORTH – Alex Lyons recorded a goal and an assist to help the No. 2 Ellsworth Eagles beat the No. 7 Camden Hills Windjammers in an Eastern Maine Class B schoolboy soccer quarterfinal Friday.
Ellsworth advanced to Tuesday’s semifinal round.
Noah Brown made four saves to earn the shutout and Kris Tracy scored on a Lyons pass for 11-3-1 Ellsworth.
Morgan Kerr made six saves on 14 shots for the 9-6-1 Windjammers.
Class A
Brunswick 5, Presque Isle 0
At Presque Isle, goalie Brian Lemont stopped all five shots he faced as the No. 5 Dragons upset the No. 4 Wildcats.
Brad Bishop scored two goals and had an assist, and Evan Grimes had a goal and an assist for Brunswick. Mike Sfirr and Justin Gauvin each added a goal for the 11-3 Dragons and Mike Furrow had an assist.
Ben Sirois and Brad Baker combined to make 10 saves on 18 shots for 12-3 Presque Isle.
Lawrence 4, Nokomis 1
At Fairfield, Brandon Grudda netted three goals as the No. 2 Bulldogs cruised past the No. 10 Warriors.
Marshall Holmes scored off a pass from Josh Saunders to tie the game for 11-1-2 Lawrence. Keven Hageman assisted on all three Grudda goals and Nate Lovitz stopped nine of 12 shots.
The 7-8-1 Warriors of Newport took an early lead thanks to a Matt Thornton goal. Mike Jacques had 11 saves on 37 shots.
Mount Ararat 2, Messalonskee 0
At Topsham, Alex Bissias notched his 13th shutout in 14 games this season as the No. 1 Mount Ararat Eagles topped the No. 9 Messalonskee Eagles.
Kyle Leduc scored on a pass from Andy Cantrell and Mark Rogers notched a goal on an Estaban Guerre assist for Mount Ararat.
Jacob Brawn stopped five of the 10 shots he faced for 7-5-2 Messalonskee of Oakland.
Class B
John Bapst 1, MDI 0 (OT)
At Bangor, Alex Means’ overtime goal helped the No. 4 Crusaders edge the No. 5 Trojans.
Means’ goal came with 4:33 left in the overtime period when he beat three defenders in the penalty area and fired a shot inside the right post. Rick Hathaway made nine saves on nine shots for 9-5-1 John Bapst.
Adam Thurston turned away 14 of 15 shots for 8-7-0 Mount Desert Island.
Old Town 1, Fort Kent 0
At Old Town, Kevin Emerson scored the winning goal for the No. 3 Indians midway through the second half as they defeated the No. 6 Warriors.
After receiving a lob pass and getting past the Fort Kent defense, Emerson kicked the ball into the bottom left corner of the net with 12:45 remaining. Tyler Traceewski stopped eight of 11 shots for 11-4 Old Town.
Dustin Nadeau made 13 saves on the 18 shots for 7-8-1 Fort Kent.
Winslow 3, Belfast 1
At Winslow, Joe Corey led the No. 1 Raiders to victory over the No. 9 Lions with a pair of goals and an assist.
Corey started the game with a goal off a pass from Oren Smith with 23:26 remaining in the first half. Nate Boutin, a senior fullback, upped the Winslow lead to 2-0 on a corner kick from Corey for his first varsity goal.
Corey gave Winslow a 3-0 lead with his second goal of the game at 14:50 in the second half after one-timing a Chris Watter direct kick. Evan Walters had one save on four shots for 12-3 Winslow. Chris Abbott stopped 9 of the 19 shots he faced for 8-7-1 Belfast.
Justin Varney scored an unassisted goal with 4:26 left in the game for Belfast.
Class C
Schenck 2, Penobscot Valley 1
At Howland, Seth Johnston scored two second-half goals as the No. 7 Wolverines of East Millinocket knocked off the No. 2 Howlers.
Johnston’s first goal came with 14:34 to go in the second half and tied the game. His winner came less than two minutes later and was assisted by Tyler Thompson. Mike Rossignol made 22 saves on 23 shots for 9-4-2 Schenck.
Andrew Hallett’s unassisted goal gave 10-4-1 Penobscot Valley a first-half lead. Garrett Lavertu stopped three of five shots.
GSA 1, Washington Acad. 0
At Blue Hill, Blake Wessel’s goal less than two minutes into the second half proved to be the game-winner as the No. 3 Eagles outlasted the No. 6 Raiders.
Mike Astbury started the winning play with a cross to Peter Graves, who pushed it through the middle to Wessel. James Friend stopped seven of the 13 shots he faced for 10-3-2 George Stevens.
Jason Labonte had 13 saves on the 24 shots for 10-3 Washington Academy of East Machias.
Penquis 2, Central 1 (OT)
At Corinth, Justin Allen’s breakaway goal 2:32 into overtime gave the No. 5 Patriots an upset victory over the No. 4 Red Devils in a battle of regular-season rivals.
Allen won a goal kick and took the ball up the middle of the field, got past two defenders and shot the ball into the back left corner of the net. Steve Kissell tied the game with 18:32 left in the first half when he scored off a pass from Jordan Allen. Kevin Nason had 17 saves on 19 shots for 8-5-2 Penquis of Milo.
Blake Goodwin gave Central a 1-0 lead with 26:04 remaining in the first half with an unassisted score. Scott Chambers stopped 12 of 14 shots for the 7-6-2 Red Devils.
Class D
Van Buren 2, Greenville 1
At Van Buren, the No. 3 Crusaders rallied with two first-half goals about seven minutes apart to hold off the No. 6 Lakers.
Luiz Sodre scored the game-winner off a direct kick from about 25 yards out with 16 minutes left in the half. Jesse Parent had tied it earlier when he converted a Tyler Hews pass. Sean Violette made three saves on five shots for 12-3-1 Van Buren.
Jonah Lizotte scored off a Nathan Woodbury pass for 11-5 Greenville and Greg Aucoin made six saves on 11 shots.
Islesboro 6, Buckfield 1
At Islesboro, Gavin Harkins racked up three goals and an assist to power the No. 4 Eagles past the No. 5 Bucks.
Jonathan Bolduc added two goals and assist in the win for 11-1 Islesboro. T.L. Tutor also scored and David Pike had a pair of assists. Nathan Gorham added an assist. Rory Diffin stopped 22 of 29 shots.
Chris Reuter put in a goal for 6-6-2 Buckfield on a pass from Marc Smith. Jeremy Stevens had 28 saves on 34 shots.
Shead 3, Machias 2
At Machias, Danny Marshall scored on a breakaway with 2:18 left in regulation as the No. 8 Tigers knocked off the previously undefeated No. 1 Bulldogs.
Marshall’s goal gave 13-3 Shead of Eastport a 3-1 lead. Ben Maloney and Mike Demolet also scored for the Tigers. Jason Bones added an assist and Darrin Constant stopped 12 of 14 shots.
Joe Richards had two goals for 12-1-2 Machias, including a score with 16 seconds left in regulation.
Washburn 4, So. Aroostook 3
At Washburn, Isaac Carney’s third goal proved to be the winner as the No. 4 Beavers bested the No. 5 Warriors of Dyer Brook.
Carney scored on a Dan Harris assist with 16:02 left in the second half for a 4-2 lead. Carney also scored twice in the first half. Seth Milton put in a goal, and Adam Worsley and Dan Harris had one assist apiece. Zach Bird had 13 saves for 11-2-1 Washburn.
Corey Edkins scored twice for 11-3-2 Southern Aroostook. Mike Lopez added a goal. Jarred Grant and Zac Montgomery each had an assist. Jeff Boutilier had 11 saves.
Fort Fairfield 1, Bangor Chr. 0
At Fort Fairfield, Mickey Browning drilled a penalty kick into the back left corner of the goal to lift the No. 2 Tigers past the No. 7 Patriots.
Fort Fairfield was awarded the PK after one of its players was grabbed during a breakaway in the penalty area. Tyler Bernaiche stopped seven of 10 shots for 15-1 Fort Fairfield.
D.J. McLeary had four saves on 10 shots for 7-4-3 Bangor Christian.
Girls soccer
Class C
Searsport 5, Calais 0
At Searsport, Jessica Wilson racked up three goals, including one on a penalty kick, as the No. 1 Vikings notched a victory over the No. 8 Blue Devils.
Wilson also added an assist. Jessica Plourde had a goal and an assist and Coleen Narofsky also scored. Shanna Murphy contributed two assists and Mo Hall stopped one of the three shots she faced for 10-2-1 Searsport.
Darcey Gillespie blocked 16 of 35 shots for 3-6-2 Calais.
