UNITY – Oakland’s Skip Connor took an early lead before getting involved in a mid-race mishap, but then charged all the way back from the rear of the field to win Unity Raceway’s biggest DNK Select Used Cars street stock race of the season and a $1,000 payday.
Connor started on the outside pole alongside Craig Robbins and set the pace for the first 24 laps before Appleton’s Chris Collins began to apply pressure. They traded the lead with Collins leading laps 25-27 and Connor took it back until the 42nd lap, when he ran into the back of a car which was slowing after being black-flagged.
Connor went to the back of the field and Collins had the lead back, but not for long. He bobbled on the start and Canaan’s Adam Gilman had his car spin, landing both in the back of the pack.
That left a fight for the lead between Liberty’s Puncin St. Clair and Lisbon Falls’ Peter Houston. Houston then pit with a flat tire and Connor moved back to second. When St. Clair spun his tires on the restart, Connor took advantage and squeezed in front and held the lead the rest of the way. St. Clair was second, Anson’s Tony Nile was third, Houston fourth and Gilman fifth.
