Heating oil prices still on rise in Maine

AUGUSTA – The average price of a gallon of home heating oil in Maine was up 1 cent this week, to $1.20.

That is 3 cents higher than a year ago, according to the State Planning Office’s weekly report on heating fuel prices across Maine.

Heating oil prices ranged from a low of $1.10 a gallon in southwestern and eastern parts of the state to a high of $1.26 in northern sections.

The average price for kerosene was steady at $1.44 a gallon, 2 cents less than a year ago, and propane was $1.48, down 4 cents from the last report on Oct. 16, but 1 cent more than a year ago.

Maine’s average per-gallon price for home heating oil compares favorably with the rest of New England, where the average price Oct. 21 was nearly $1.24 a gallon, according to the Department of Energy’s Energy Information Administration.
