GUILFORD – A Guilford woman and her teenage son were left homeless Monday after a fire destroyed their North Guilford home.

Neither Rhonda Welcome nor her son, Josh, 21, was home when the fire was reported at 1:30 p.m., according to Guilford Fire Chief Richard Williams II.

The fire, believed to have been reported by a passing motorist, was fully involved when firefighters arrived, he said.

Williams said the single-story home was demolished, making it difficult to determine how or where the fire started. An investigator from the state Fire Marshal’s Office was called to investigate the cause.

Sangerville, Dover-Foxcroft and Monson firefighters assisted Guilford firefighters at the scene. Mayo Regional Ambulance Service also responded.

Red Cross officials are assisting the family with necessities.
