Flu clinics scheduled through November

BANGOR – The City of Bangor Immunization Clinic is predicting a strong, protracted flu season this year. November is the time to schedule annual flu shots, officials said. The City of Bangor Immunization Program has ample supplies of both influenza and pneumonia vaccine with additional shipments expected.

The city has expanded its regular clinic schedule with a number of outreach clinics. The outreach clinics will operate as long as vaccine is available. Influenza and pneumonia vaccines are available to all – there are no residency requirements.

The influenza vaccine is an inactivated vaccine; it is not a live vaccine. Therefore, the serum cannot cause the flu. Getting a flu shot is not a guarantee against getting sick, but it does reduce the likelihood, officials explained.

Those who are eligible for Medicare Part B will not be charged for the flu or pneumonia vaccines.

Others are charged $10 for flu vaccines, and $5 for pneumonia vaccines.

The City Immunization Program is not a Medicaid participant, therefore the applicable co-pay will be assessed.
